workin on old cars

Well My car was virtually untouched by the previous owner. He changed the oil and all that good stuff on a regular basis, But as far as liek ps belt, and alt belt teh tension er pulley's. brakes trans (auto) I rebuilt struts.

I dont know, the car was not designed to be worked on at all as far as teh engine components go. Water pump and timing belt. I would literally pull the motor if I had a place to do it. No Joke.

Just wondering if anyone else gets a little frustrated with their "classic" Mazda's (lick)

I know my '87 323 Wagon always has some random issue going on with it. It's not that it is hard to work on. It's just that it always needs to be worked on.

Mine don't always need to be worked on its just I break a lot of stuff, I have to be more careful. I was lucky I was able to locate a used "tension pulley" only other place was Mazda $300 later, I got one for $40. .. omg.

I love the early 90's imports regardless, Nothing better then a looking liek new early 90's import mmmmmmmmmmm.

I have a '92 MX-3/GS (V-6, 5-speed) and had similar problems with the belts/pulleys. The tensioner bracket was found to be broken, upon having new belts installed. The Mechanic managed to make a "Bypass" tensioner, which sets right in front of the oil dipstick tube. I finally got the other one fixed, but not before the pulley slipped again (mechanic error) and got hot, melting a belt onto the pulley, cooling again, & shredding the new belt within a week. (I saw that they had not tightened the Bypass bolt completely, but hey, it was their mistake, & they replaced belt at no charge. I could not afford to replace the pulley, wo they cleaned it up, and so far its been holding up. My problem now is listed in the "All MAzdas" forum, I am having a problem with fuel delivery. (Like "None"!) BTW, I'm a Lady, also!

Yeah, that $$ is about right, for that pulley! My Mechanic wanted $230, installed! Wish I could post a photo of it, but I only have "bare-bones" laptop!
