Wiring Harness Problem

Ok, I have a 2001 Mazda Protege. I bought it used and the original mazda head unit was removed for an aftermarket cd player. Whent the guy sold it back to me, he gave me back the original head unit but no radio harness. I bought a new harness off of e-bay, but I don't know what wires go where and I can't seem to find the wiring diagram for a 2001 Mazda Protege. I can only find up to 2000 mazda protege and then it jumps to the 2003 mazda protege. I tried wiring it to the supposed standard mazda pinout that I found on the mazdaspeed forums but that doesn't work so I was wondering if anybody has the pinouts for the wiring harness if they could post it for me, that would be great.

Did they wire the old headunit directly into the facotry harness effectly cutting off the stock connector and not use an aftermarket harness adaptor for the car? Am I understanding this correctly?

I'll try to see if I can find what you're after tomorrow if I can remember. I have the shop manual(s), all the schematics, and the schematics from the snapon database. Just a matter of looking through them all to find the right one.

Yes, they completely chopped off the original wireharness and then directly wired the aftermarket unit to the wires. Either that, or when they removed their aftermarket unit, they decided to be very lazy and just cut it all off.

Hey guys, I found out what I was doing wrong. Apparantly I did not insert the plug into the radio all the way. Haha, that was so dumb of me. Well, I got it to go all the way in and now it works. Well, at least the clock anyways. I gotta go get some speakers to test the radio and cd player out (turns out the guy took all of the speakers with him).

i have the same issue with a 2000 mazda protege and have found the diagrams but when i hook up the deck, i get no sound.. please help
