winter tires and wheels and TPMS

I realize I will need winters tires and rims for my Speed3. Do I need to spring for Tire Pressure Monitors for the new tires and rims. This is a $220 option at Tire Rack. What happens if I dont get them installed? Just an idiot light on the dash or something more than that? Thanks

yep, just the dash warning....no need for them AFAIK.

Do you have winter tire on rims without TPMS? I'm about to get my 08 MZ5 and I'm worried about that ''feature''. I know some car companies put active system with the TPMS that cut power if the alert comes on. I guess Mazda did like Honda and only put a passive system (which is great in a way). I can deal with a light on my dashboard.
