Winter Tire Question

what happens if you run wheels w/o the TPMS? do you just get the dash light?

I belive that's the case. I'll let you know in a couple of days when I get back home. My new winter shoes are waiting for me to install w/o TMPS sensors.

Been driving for 2 weeks on the Nexen winters/steelies. No fitment issues beyond the open lug nuts, and there is no vibration issues at all. Been up to 120kph and the 5 rides as smooth as with stock wheels and tires.

Wish I could say the same about the way these winter tires handle. They squirm like Tiger in front of the rabid press, and squeal like his wife while listening to his phone messages.
At least they don't hammer under wheel spin like the stockers.

Now we need some snow to see how they handle with the treads packed tight.

Take a trip over to Whistler? I thought I saw they had like 18 feet of snow over there in November.

That ought to do it.

Just came back from the dealer...

16 inch steel wheels are 59.99$ + tax
4 x 60 = 240$

Winter tires (from the dealer) are 105 each
4 x 105 = 420$

240 + 420 + tax = 745$ (installed)

That's in Montreal Canada.

745CAD = 704USD

I just ordered a set of alloys with winter tires for the 5 (no TPMS) for $619 shipped from Tirerack

100$ difference - the rims are about the same price!

Have had a great chance the last few days to really test out my winter set up, Dunlap winter sport sp2's on new 16" alloys and these tires rock, i have had no problems getting around on 4"+ snowpacked roads, wet roads, and on dry they are quite and drive very nice. I am very happy with them and would recommend them
