Windshield Wiper Arm Issue

Something odd happened to me today. I was driving in the rain, with the wipers going, and suddenly my driver's side wiper arm crossed over the A-piller and started wiping over the side of the car. Thankfully, there are not scratches on the exterior, but the wiper does not work anymore. I can freely rotate the wiper arm back and forth now, but the controls cannot move it. In some positions I can tell that the motor is still trying to move it, but the arm just don't seem to be connected anymore...

Anyone know if this would just be a replacement wiper arm assembly or a whole new motor and all?

same thing happened to me after a season of snow. Seems like the torque on the wiper connections is not enough. Take the little black cap off of the base of the wiper and tighten the nut that holds the wiper to the wiper motor. Before you do that make sure the wiper is in a good neutral position so when it swipes, the wiper doesn't extend beyond the windscreen.
