Windshield Replacement

2025 CX-5 Carbon, took a large rock that really did a number on the front windshield. Insurance says it needs to be replaced and I have to use Safelite. Anyone have any experience with either OEM or not for the windshield itself? And the calibration that needs to be done after the windshield is replaced? Safelite says they can do the calibration.

Where do you live that an insurance company can dictate where repairs are made? I know they can't do that in Calif. I had my windshield replaced at the shop of my choice using OE glass and State Farm was glad to pay the bill.

Our 2019 was in a hailstorm and both front and rear windows were smashed. They were replaced by Safelite, but for the front they said we'd have to take into their shop to get it replaced and to have the recalibration done. After that, it was perfect, no issues for the several years since.

The rear window was a different outcome. They replaced that at our house, but it turned out to have bad ripples in the glass. We called them out again and the replaced again. Again with bad ripples. We called them out a 3rd and 4th time, but checked the replacements first - again both had bad ripples. We asked for OEM rear glass, but we were told it was out of stock and we'd have to wait months. They never called us back, so at that point we gave up and have to live with the ripples. But, again, the front was perfectly fine.
