If the window stalls at the halfway point, the regulator and associated parts are usually at fault requiring you to change the lift/lower mechanism. An abrupt stop is an indication that the motor never really finished its cycle. It's not that hard to change, nor very expensive. The most difficult part is removing the inner door panel. Here is a picture and is for front left, you'll need the right side. When they bind it is generally a broken plastic gear in the reduction section of the gear box where the worm gear meets the larger driven gear. If you can lift the window upwards from the stopped position manually, the engagement pins that secure the glass to the lift block are broken. The front passenger window on my 2017 cx 5 will only lower half way, and even with pressure applied it won't go any lower. It closes fine and operates at a normal speed. Has anyone had the same issues and any ideas on a solution.
It stops abruptly.Does it stop abruptly at 1/2 or display any odd behavior or sounds when it gets there?
They will stop abruptly for several reasons: 1-faulty freyed cable, 2-kinked or binding cable, 3 - something caught in one of the side channel runs 4-lift block cracked/damaged 5-motor/internal gearbox damaged. Some parts are possibly available separately but a complete lift mechanism is the best way to go. This is not a tough job to do yourself and a very good link is here:It stops abruptly.
