I dunno its tough i love the mazdaspeed 6 but i love my msp at the same time two different feels the MSP6 is the "grown up" mazdaspeed car its more luxurious more of a car i could see myself in in 7 years or so. Thats not stopping me from making my dad purchasing one (thumb) going to test drive one with him later today

I'm pretty bored at work today. I'll go drive it and let you know what I think.

I don't know, I saw an MS6 (color: maroon) yesterday on the Highway, I rolled up next to what looked like a dealer and customer on a test drive, gave the (thumb) they sent it back and then I started to pass them, I could see them in my rearview mirror pointing to my car, I guess the dealer guy was telling his customer that that also is a MAZDASPEED, then he downshifted to 3rd and romped it. I had no chance. (I would love to catch one at a light.) I had 2 rather large guys in my car with me, plus was not expecting them to open it up like that. It took off like a rocket though. I need to drive one for myself to see how it compres to the MSP.

My first thoughts are no because I enjoy the feel of the smaller car. Smaller cars always feel more nimble and quick to react.

No, I wouldn't just because it weights more and is larger. I don't really care for the AWD or the ~100 bhp advantage.

Well, I have driven the Speed6 and it is a very nice handling and responsive car, like driving on rails. There is no turbo lag and even @ 100MPH, you don't feel like you are even going that fast.

Of couse it is not as nimble as the Speed Protege and I don't feel you get the immediate feed back from the 6 as you do from the MSP, but each has their pros and cons!

If you haven't driven it, take a test drive and then post your opinions. They are both great cars!

I'll probably be trading in my MSP for a MS6 in the summer/fall (whenever Mazda comes out with the year-end clearance incentives for '06 model year cars).

274hp, 6-speed, AWD...

best reason not to buy one....

450+ dollars for 60months..... Slave to mazda. Stick with something you've paid off or almost done with.

i took the mazdaspeed6 out for a half hour today. fun stuff.

throttle is very responsive. the car really feels eager from a standing start, makes stop and go traffic an exercise to get used to. the clutch is solid and had good feel on the pedal, grabbed good on hard shifts. you can tell a difference immediately between a Flat Rock assembled 6 and Hiroshima assembled Mazdaspeed6. the fit and finish just seem that much better and the rattles/ticks/clunks aren't there like they are in the US 6s i have driven. thankfully, tacky accents are nowhere to be found and instead you have a clean, more upscale, refined interior with a hit of brushed metal rings and leather throughout to add just the right amount of style. steering is spot on and the car corners flat for a "big car". not even the slightest bit of lean when you're gunning it into a turn. the shifter is a ******* dream compared to a protege. it snaps into every gear and you have no trouble putting it through its changes. getting back into my car, i yearned for a lack of notchiness, lack of relative effort. the ms6's shifting felt natural as hell.

of course, there is the engine. the engine purrs fairly politely by comparison to other cars and even when you rev it up, the tone is smooth and pleasant to the ears. the turbo is muted somewhat. i could stand for a little more audible exhaust note, etc. when you get on it, the car goes. and i mean it really does have some go to it. we're not talking mind blowing acceleration, but it will easily smoke your average mazdaspeed protege. the onset of power is silky smooth - no hiccups or hesitation, no speakable turbo lag and full power is relatively on tap. my only complaint, and its very noticeable, is that despite 6500 rpm redline, the car flatlines above 6000. i had run the car hard a few times to verify, but each time i did it seemed like the car just wasn't making any power past 6000 rpm. shifting at 6000 instead of 6500, the car felt a hair faster which somewhat boggled me.

overall i was impressed. plus there are rebates on them already. not going to run out and buy one, but i was told i could probably pick one up in a month or two for 22000 vs 29000.

Nope. MS6 is not my type of car. Besides, I am still paying for my MSP. I plan on keeping mine for a long time.

I also drove a speed6 today it is a really nice car. I liked the clutch a lot and the car for its size handles exceptionally well. All wheel drive always makes for fun take offs out of first gear lol. The car feels a lot bigger and heavier than the msp though and thats one thing i don't like abou it. I really like the 6 don't get me wrong but i think its a little 2 big of a car for my liking it really loses that sports car feel. Power is excellent though great low end torque makes the car a BLAST to drive. In my opinion i would wait for the speed 3 before i bought a speed 6

Nope and two reasons why.

Reason #1: I only have a year and a half left on my car loan and don't really want to extend my car debt.

Reason #2: I'll wait for the Mazdaspeed 3 to come out. Same motor as the Mazdaspeed 6, just in a smaller (ie. lighter) package.

I'm seriously considering it. I work for a dealership, so I know I'd get a hell of price and the car's handling is almost on par with ours. I had the opportunity to drive one at Road Atlanta and I fell in love. The turbo actually is laggy, but 9.5:1 compression is high, so you hardly notice when the turbo spools up. The only thing that's really holding me back at this point is that I'd actually have some trade equity in my MSP if it weren't for the aftermarket stuff, so trade-in isn't a choice and, I've got nice, low payments. It's also going to be a while before there's any serious aftermarket. The DISI system, Mazda's ECU, very high compression for a car that uses 15.6psi of boost means that there's probably not a lot of room to play.... Maybe when I'm out of this phase of playing with my cars.
