Will this tire/wheel combo fit?

I found a great deal on some tires locally, so I picked them up. They're 215/40/17. I'm looking at getting a set of Konig Illusions, they're 17x7, with an offset of 40. Will these fit my stock P5 without rubbing?

Thanks, I read that post already and it's just over my head.

Mazda Protege5 fitment guide

215/40/17; 215/35/18
-------------
7.0" +45 and higher
7.5" +48 and higher

This just doesn't make an sense to me... I'm thinking that yes, they'll fit, but since I don't know how offsets work (Is a +40 offset "higher" than a +45 offset?), I'm deferring to the experts.

Short answer would be most helpful, i.e., yes they will fit, or no they won't.

With the +40 offset, you will probably rub on your fender unless you roll it. The higher the "+" number, the closer the wheel will be to your strut. The lower the "+" number, the closer it will be to your fender. So with a 215 wide tire, you will need a +45 thru +55 offset wheel. Even with a 205 wide tire, the +40 will be pushing it

its gonna be close and depends on your wheel really. To be safe your going to want extended studs and possibly open ended lug nuts.

Why are you asking about spacers? You may have it backwards...a 40mm offset wheel will barely clear the fender putting 5mm spacers will make it a 35mm offset and you will be riding on the fenders.

Ah... Ok. Got it. That makes more sense. For some reason, this just isn't clicking in my head. So, the lower the number, the farther the wheel sticks out... So a +35mm will stick out 5 mm more than a +40mm wheel. That makes sense. Ok... Glad I'm asking these questions. Guess I'm going to have to figure out what to do now the wheels I want probably won't fit right.

Thanks guys. Seriously, saved me a ton of searching here... Great info, you're very much an asset to this board.

Seriously, I'm not usually this slow, it's been a long couple of days. But what I'm understanding is that a 17x7 wheel will need to have an offset of +45, and a 17x7.5 needs to be +48.

You got it. But you probably don't want anything over +55 on a 17x7 unless you use a wheel spacer. I have +55 and its REALLY close to the strut

How much rubbing will you have with the 17x7 +40 if on stock springs/struts? Let's say the tire size is 205/40/17? I've heard mixed reviews on whether it will rub or not...
