just got this axleback and im having feeling that it wont fit.

im not 100% because i heard mixed things about where it had to come from for it to bolt on right or not.

like if it came from a p5 then yea but from a mp3 or mps then no.

but alot of people do have it on their p5 but i dont get it? mazda speed only came in the sedan form?

here are pics. i didnt know how to take them to get the contrast of how big it is. but o well

well the one u got is either the msp or mp3 axleback. it'll bolt up to ur p5 but its gonna stick out about 5 inches or so cause the p5 is actually shorter. anyways yes many people have it on their p5. they actually cut some of the piping(i think by the exhaust tip?idk..lol..) and weld it back on.

they did make one specifically for the p5...it was a mazdaspeed dealer accessory. thats the one i got haha..people say it drones but i dont hear anything :P and i love it cause it sounds like a wrx at times haha

o btw...try look closely if u see any new welds. if u do, it was probably cut for ur car already if ur not sure whether it was from a p5 or not.

i probably will.

but the hassle of getting it then having to go to a shop to fix it sucks

i wanted to just install and be done lol but now adding that i ahve to cut it, i think im gunna sell it

lol...i think if u sold it, the hungry vultures will want it p5 or not haha. racing beat is really a quality piece.

yea it is. i just polished it and waxed it..... for nothing

i will have to see what i should cut and how much its gunna be

i dont wanna spend more then 50 for the welding work. im gunna install it myself. then if its too much i'll see how much i can sell it for

what price do you suggest for this?

i think welding would be about 50? lol..not sure sorry.

umm not sure about the price either >< anyone care to chime in? hehe

I just got this installed on my car and even when you cut away all the pipe between the tip and the muffler, it's still about an inch too long. Not too bad though. It sounds great. I might get a new tip put on there eventually, one that actually fits right on a P5.

That is the stock axle back from the 03my MSP (round tip). It will fit your hatch but like others have said, you will need to have approx 4-5 inches of piping cut off between the tip and the muffler.

Before you sell it, call a few shops to get some quotes. I have read where some people have had the job done for $30.

I have had my 03.5 for two years and love it.

do you mind posting pics of it?

cause thats what i was thinking of doing.

cutting the piping between the tip and the muffler.

but still to long?

there was a thread on this w/ pics but iono where to look.
maybe the official exhaust thread has it..

I just posted two pics of the same axleback on my car????

The main difference is the exhaust you have has the round tip where mine has the oval tip.

And as I mentioned you will have to cut the piping between the tip and muffler and then have the tip re-welded back on. You might want to buy a new gasket as well.

Don't be discurraged man. This is the best axleback for our cars in my opinion. When I did it I installed it as is on my P5. Then measured how much it stuck out past my bumper. Then I just cut that much out of the piping behind the tip. If I remember right you pretty much have to cut off all the piping behind the tip. It is good to leave a little bit of a lip though to weld the tip to. My buddy had a welder so he did the welding for me and I did the cutting with a cutting wheel. Here is some pics from when I did it:
