will getting an MP3 ECU make a difference in HP?

my friend is getting an ECU and now i want one too. but before i buy, will this make a difference in HP? he says it will but i am skeptical.....before u begin to flame...i did a search and just came up with statements that it does but nothing on how or why.

what u putting it in (the mp3 ecu)

it will be very minimal gains (maybe 3-4hp at wheels at MOST)

and you'll have to get premium (usually 20cents more per gallon or so)

IMO, its not worth it.

hmm well you could use it, but you would have to get something to control timing...alot more hassle/money but it will work, if you get it and ever decide on getting rid of it let me know, cause i wanna get rid of the p5 ecu i have..

It will add some horsepower and help with "throttle response", it just seems a little better in terms of tuning, IMHO. However, the advanced timing isn't great when you turbo or nitro, however, if you are left controlling timing with something that retards timing only, you are in a better position to tune for more power. If however you can advance and retard timing, then it won't matter at all, because that is basically all it does (advance timing, or so we have been told).

The power gains will be minimal for the price invested in the ECU.

It's not worth it. It doesn't make that much horsepower, and as everyone else has said, if you do turbo or nitrous, you don't want it anyway.
