Hey Guys, I believe my 1st and 2nd gear syncros are worn out in my 2002 Mazda Protege 5. I can get a manual transmission out of a wrecked 2005 Mazda 3 4dr. hatch back. Does any one know if they will interchange? They appear to be a lot alike by my initial inspection. Why I have it apart I am going to change the clutch. Any suggestions? Also, Does an aluminum flywheel really make that much difference in freed up horsepower? ....Thanks!!!

Im perty sure that the 3 and p5 use different block, thus requiring a differnt bell housing. This may or may not be an issue.

Honestly i think it will not work and that the trannies are too different.

I thought the base engine on the 3 was the same old FS-DE thats in our cars though. They only added the new 2.3 to the top of the line. If thats the case it will work but im not positive thats the case.

I did some research at this automatic transmission web site (http://www.drivetrain.com/autotranscrossref.html) and it says the 98-03 Protege all motors (1.4-1.6-2.0L) takes the same FN4A-EL atomatic tranny. It also says that same tranny fits all Mazda 3's and the 03-06 6i with a 2.3l. If it takes that same automatic tranny in all these models...Why wouldn't it take the same Manual tranny too in those models? Any real tranny experts out there? Please respond...Thanks again!

Multiple cars can use the same transmission with the parts fitted into different housing so they can mate to different engines.
