Although I also haven't heard of anyone having probs with a relcated maf I think that the cost of having to potentially replace the MAF is a better bet than screwing with all the hassles associated with the alternatives and all the subsequent costs to fix said hassles that go along with them.
Also, I have been watching my spark plugs to make sure they look normal (i.e. looking for symptoms of a/f probs) and they look perfect.
