Why is Injen pipe smaller than other pipes??

I noticed other filters didn't fit on Injen pipe because the pipe was too small for those filters.
Why is it smaller? Isn't that supposed to be larger to get more air flow?

Larger than aother what? CAIs? Other Protege intakes?

I had a 4" filter opening on my Nissan Altima $tillen intake.

It's not about just shear tubing size; it's about air flow tuning and volume. It's along the same lines as why some drag racers actually lose power if they run their carbs without a filter or velocity stack......

I have a custom one and i'm sure that it's better than the Injen one!!! You pay for the mark !!! Mine cost 180 bucks CANADIAN !!! So go for the custom one (3 inches pipe)

the pipe diameter is specifically chosen for the length of piping (well it should be)...the reason being that the further the ait filter is away from the engine, the further the air has to travel. now, if the pipe is too big, it will be great at high rpm, but will suck through the rest of the rev range because the air is travelling too slow. smaller tubes make the air travel faster which in some cases give more rpm (it's the same theory as intake manifolds). so what injen did was figure out the most appropriate diameter for that given length of piping to be the most appropriate across the rev range....

hope this helps

oh and i should add, shorter intakes can afford to run bigger diameters because the air doesnt have to travel as far when the throttle is opened...but loose out when it comes to intake temps

all in all some people prefer cai's, some short rams. imo choose what you're happy with. i like the idea of cai's so that's why i got the injen

later

oh that's a good information.
That makes sense to me
Thanks
I love my injen. I like the way it sounds and looks :)
