Why I chose the Honda CRV over the Mazda CX5

Agree. My Volvo S70 was the family hauler and item transporter (lumber, toys, x-mas trees) for 13.5 years. When I sold her for the CX-5 the leather seat faces were in very good condition and the vinyl seat backs were perfect.

hmmm... good to know for next time. Maybe leather isn't all that bad... surprised your car's leather held up against all of that!

Not to mention leather and vinyl does not easily absorb (and is easy to clean with damp rag) the normal stuff that baby's spill on car seats, including milk/formula, juice, spitup, etc.

As CX-SV noted below, the leather/vinyl is also so much easier to clean when children do what they do in the seat behind you as assorted crud rests on rather than soaking into the upholstery (think spilled milk souring in the foam as an example). I point out that there is no free ride. The leather looked good - the new owner was pleasantly surprised during her inspection - in part because every spring and fall it got a time consuming cleaning and treatment with Lexol products.

The big selling point for me was handling. This was the first time that I was directed to take the vehicle onto a gravel road and put it through its paces at a fairly good clip. We did emergency braking, fairly high speed corners, hard braking in corners, etc.. The salesman had a great knowledge of and enthusiasm for vehicle. He trusted what it would do.

I had to order the one I wanted. (Aluminum Metallic GT with technology package) They found one mid ocean.

This is my second Mazda; my previous one was 1984 RX-7 GSL-SE which I sometimes regret selling.

I test drove Hyundai Sante FE, Ford Escape, Nissan Rogue, Honda CRV.

It offends the least amount of people. the fuel economy I'm getting between 34.5 and 38 mpg with city and highway combined with a disciplined right foot.

i have a 2013 raptor, i offend all the tree hugging dirt worshippers with my 13mpg. haha
but the wife wants a cx9, which apparently get twice the mpg as my truck.........
