well, the car was super hot last evening when I got home, so I couldn't change the oil. I'm gonna change the oil and check the spark plugs and the other stuff too. I went to walmart to look for the k&n filter but they didn't have it. so I'll let ya know what I find.

btw, can someone explain to me why I'm the fool for using 89 if I don't have to? my cuz told me that 87 is a lesser quality fuel and leaves build up and (la la la...). he has an acura integra

and the guy with the mod k&n filter, do you have pic so I can see what you're talking about?

no. you dont need more than 87 because your car isnt made for it. with 89 you will not have complete combustion and leave deposits withing the combustion chamber, on the valves, etc, burn out your cats, etc because you cannot utilize the extra octane/higher energy available in the 89 octane

but wait, what explains the increase in mile per gallon? I got about 2-5 more miles per gallon on 89 vs 87

So you have both. You don't need a COLD air intake in the winter, and in the springtime it rains, so a short ram is good for winter and springtime//fall, and the cold air is good for the summer. But if it does rain when you have the CAI you'll have to take it off, which would be hell if you are in a hurry.
The CAI gives you 1~5 more HP than the short ram depending but unless you have a censor to detect moister or humidity, I'd go with the short ram. Because if water gets up into the CAI your engine can seize up.
ok... it is possible yes to get water in your cai... but unless you have a turbo sucking the hell out of the ouside air and you go into a 3 foot puddle no water is going to get in the engine... like 99.9999999999999999999999999 percent of the time.. if you are the one guy who is.000000000000000001 then you were gonna have s*** to begin with.. and you can get an AEM hydrolock thing which prevents that all together... you need not both a short ram and cai... but hey... if it makes you less woried im haoppy for ya(nana)

probably detergents in the gasoline

I don't even remember. But I keep reading everyone's posts about how you dont need a higher octane fuel and that a CAI is the best way to go and all this horse s s***. Higher octane fuel burns faster and burns all of it when you run it through your motor. I tried both 87 and 93 and between the two, my car ran 10times better on 93, and I got a hell of a lot better gas mileage, I had to tune my fuel way down to get good gas mileage which sucks because it robs power, but oh well. As for a CAI, its more or less personal preference. There are a few different ways you can make your car quicker, but it all boils down to, you have a 3500-4000lb car with 105whp (give or take) your car is not going to be some race car unless you spray the hell out of it or boost it. If you don't have much money to work on the car, I suggest just piece together a turbo kit, I did and for $1100 I had an entire turbo kit ready to put in the car, minus intercooler piping and oil lines for the turbo, which is like maybe all together about $100, so for $1200 you can turbo your car, and that was me buying brand new parts, I had brand new gauges, OBX turbo manifold, turbo timer, BOV, boost controller, Venom Fuel Pressure regulator, 3 gauge pod. Used parts were, the T25 turbo off a 2nd gen Eclipse, FMIC off a friends 380whp civic hatch, I think that was about it, Im sure there is more I just cant think of it all. But hell I have the manifold here at the house I'll sell you for cheap along with the turbo. But it boils down to, if you really just want some more pick up and go or better gas mileage, because you cant have both. When you turbo your car, you have to use 91+ octane and you have to run a little more rich on your fuel so you dont cause detonation and blow your s*** all to pieces. So turbo = more money and more gas.

But I suggest, for a daily driven car, Short ram intake (easier to route), 4-1 or 4-2-1 header, and 2.25in header back pipe to a muffler of your choice. Don't call for the stupid cat back systems you see on the internet, total waste of money, if you think about what you are buying, all you are paying for is some pipe and a muffler....there for, buy the muffler from like Borla (thats what I have) or Flowmaster or whoever you want, and just take it to your local muffler place and tell them what you want. If your state requires emissions, then just get a hi flo cat and call it a day. With these bolt ons you will notice a difference, with out making your gas mileage go all to hell. If you have more questions, please PM me and I can tell you more little tips and tricks that I found when I did this same thing to my car. Good luck!

PS - and the other guys are right, you dont need to run 91+ in your car, it just burns faster and doesnt leave as much deposits and s*** in your valves and such. I run 87 and it runs just fine, I just was saying that I noticed more get up and go with the car when I ran 93.

I like the 89 cause 87 my car is a drag... and I'm more concerned with acceleration. 13s is a long time to hit 60. and like, once I hit 90 (3rd gear) and shift to 4th (I have an auto) it takes some time to get it passed 120. so I jus wanna actually be able to hit the stock 140 without having to go down a hill or off a cliff (Lol @ previous posts). but I may jus stick with an intake and get a sound system to bump to. I'm trying to keep it economical. I'm looking to get the MS3 in about 2 yrs, so I can wait for the price of performance.

it will never make it to 140, they are drag limited to much slower.
There is nothing wrong with yout car, seriously they are just this slow :(
Gas mileage would have also been better with a manual as well. Having the car in tiptronic mode will not change much since the trans will shift at redline on its own
 
u are wrong about the fuel. unless your ecu is tuned for it u are wasting money, causing build up and making your ecu run even richer to compenate for incomplete burn.

Orphman is right you don't need both, but I got a really good deal on it.
I'm not sure what everyone is talking about with the water situation and the CAI. I read EVERYWHERE that absolutely no water in the CAI. I got paranoid because with a CAI vs. Short Ram, the CAI will give a few more HP but if you get water in your engine it will seize and I thought that a few more HP to only seize my engine wasn't a good idea, but at that time I didn't know about the bypass valve; and the Short Ram is just a few compared to the CAI and actually sits up in your engine compartment.

If you can find a K&N Short Ram for cheap get it. I can def. feel the pull, and it sounds BADDDD : ] just the sound makes me proud of my car. Is that bad?

Yea I skate. haven't in a 2 months because I went into management.

lol, if i talk about cars with any of the girls i know they get bored very quickly.

as for the whole 13 sec protege this guys got. I don't really know what to say. from what i can tell from the short time i've been here is that it takes alot of time and money to get these things going anywhere very fast unless you go with the F/I route. Even then they're still not the fastest things on the road compared to other things you could turbo charge. I still love my car though : ).

Also its probably not helped by the fact that he's driving an auto. The 1/4 mile times of these cars is like what a second slower for automatic? I can't really say anything though b/c my P5 isn't stock and i didn't buy it stock, plus its a manual. Also i would like to add that i agree with the whole gas thing. Running higher octane in a car that doesn't call for it is a bad idea. It can get the engine knocking and you can have some major problems down the road. My sister had a celica sxt and she ran premium in it when i believe it only called for about 87 or 89 and she had some major problems. Once she realized her mistake and tried giving it 87 she had alot of protests from the engine : P
