why are ppl lowering their mp5 ?

beside making it looks slightly better and possibily go faster (less air resistence)... i dont see a reason why.

I think the mp5 look pretty cool by itself w/o lowering it.

After you lowered it tho, the car becomes less value, and it is bad on winter - snow, ice, etc... not to mention there will be higher maintanence cost...

am i right on theses ?

I put new rims and low-pro tires on my P5, and now I have about a mile of wheel gap. Also, the lower the car is, the lower the center of gravity is, the better the car corners. (thumb)
I plan on keeping my P5, so I'm not worried about re-sale value, plus I kept all the stock parts, so if something happens and I have to sell the car, I can bring it back to stock pretty easily.
And it never snows where I live...
Those are a couple of the reasons why springs are next on my shopping list

All in good time, all in good time. Currently the power band is no were near reaching the extremes of the handling. Therefore I'm just working on getting more useable power. Then start on the suspension.

I agree...after changing my rear sway bar, the car handles as well as I need. I will leave the rest of the suspension as is.

I agree...The protege5 is already low to the ground...and with my Box & amp in the back..my car already looks lowered...I think that people should look for 18" rims...and forget about lowering the car..with a set of 18"s there will be little to no gap in the wheel well..The car already handles like a dream!!

Just my $.02

Wheel well gap=(notcool) Besides a lowered car just looks BAD A$$!! (and it does lower the center of gravity ,so it helps in the handling department too!):D
IMHO, I think these cars sit like 4WD's but I'm also used to sitting like 2'' from the ground too!

Thats my plan....

but my question is why not lower the p5??

It's all about personal preference. If you want to be in the weeds, do it. If you like it stock, stay there.

A lot of people consider "lowering" your car to be a ricer thing to do. I personally don't give a rat's a$$ - if you want to do it, do it.

The notion that lowering your car improves handling is often false. The lowering has to be done very precisely to actually improve cornering. Most of the lowering jobs you see on the street are done incorrectly, and therefore handling is actually worse. This is because on these incorrect lowering jobs the wheels have a tendency to angle inward by 5 degrees or more, reducing the tire surface touching the ground and thus totally screwing up your handling.

If you don't care about handling and you just want a fly hoopdy, yo, then carry on. :)

Yep you can not just "slam" a car and expect better handling. Chamer and tow concerns are very important to consider when deciding to what degree you want to improve handling.

Also has noted some also like the looks of a car being lower, plus wheel gap.

No, I would say that cutting stock springs is a ricer thing to do but a nice set of springs or a set of coil-overs are one of the best performance mods you could do in regards to handling....

I agree with you, "if you want to do it, then do it." No matter if it is for show or performance reasons.

You should always do whatever you want with your car. Try not to fall into the trap of really caring what other people will think. Its your car, your ideas, your style.

If people start screaming ricer, then just ask them if they think hot-rods are "rice". Cause that is exactly how the hot-rod sence started. People wanting to add more personal style to their cars, add a little more flavor. And by not truely caring what others think we've got some very creative designs.

i think lowering it like an inch or inch half helps for better handling because of the center of gravity of your car is lower to the ground. try drifting an escalade compared to a slightly lowered car. but i can see the point of slamming the crap out if it only does more bad (camber, etc) than good. well, thats my reason for lowering my car. peace - chris

since when is lowering a car a ricer thing? i guess EVERY single JDM car in japan and in the usa must be a ricer car then? as i recall, eveyrone loves to run hks, buddy club, jic, tein, and etc struts on their car.

so i guess the MP3 is a riced out protege then? since it runs lowering springs?

HOWEVER,
it is true proper lowering and just slamming are two different things.

a good example is if you have dealt with eibach for a while though, the pro-kits are designed to work with factory struts, giving the best stance and performance gain. the sportline kits are meant for just more of an agressive drop.

i would have killed for a good camber kit when i had my skunk2s, but the negative camber did increase turn in and response.

I saw a lot of P5 lowered, my opinion ? it look so ridicule, it makes the car look too fat.

My 2 cents.

Seriously, who the gives a damn if someone wants to lower their car? If they do, good. If not, great... I dont care, its their car (fight)

Handling, and of course the phatness of the look, nothing like roaming the earth on the lowered suspension.

* I'll have mine slammed please *

You posed the question in an earlier post - why not lower your car? People are telling you why not.
