No cheap sleeve kits la GroundControl or Skunk2.

I'm looking for the real thing -- thread shock, custom spring rates, etc.

Anyone know a manufacturer that makes them?

Thanks.

MAZDASPEED...or J I C magic is coming out with one soon or they even may be out already....but very expensive...at least a grand....for the set...

How reliable are coil-overs anyway? I was told to stay away from coil-overs if i planned to make my P5 a daily driver. What do u guys/mazdaspeed girl think?:D

Coilovers are very reliable. It all depends on what brand you get and setup. Your best bet is to get a coilover setup that also has adjustable dampening as well so that you can change your settings for street as well as track or race. Too bad Tein doesn't make a set for our cars as they have all types of varying levels of coilovers to suite each person's needs. Don't go with a cheap brand though, otherwise, you get what you pay for.

I've heard Tein's rust very quickly if you use your car as a daily driver. I guess it's for the hardcore racer. Probably not meant for snow and salt and other corrosive substances found on our public roads. Oh well, not that it matters since they don't have coilovers for our car :)

Well depending on where you live, you will always have to worry about rust on the sleeves with any coilover kit. As for Teins, my friend Subywan just got the Type Flex coilovers for his wagon and damn those things are nice. Most of the Teins come with an anti-rusting spray for the sleeves. I don't expect to see Tein make an application for the Protege since the don't have an application in Japan. The Skunk2 and Ground Control coilovers are not cheap, they do the job, and don't forget the Ground Control can get you custom spring rates. The Skunk2 spring rates are usually higher already.

Just a quick note for you guys.....the JIC's come with the aircraft aluminum upper pillow mounts, so that means they are true slap in kits. The higher end models have adjustable camber plates in the upper mounts aswell. For pics of the JIC's check out my Clubphoto link in my sig. I beleive the coilovers are ready, we're just waiting for someone to order them. As you all know they aren't exactly cheap kits, be prepared to pay over $1100, do also be prepared to be the owner of what might possibly be the best coilover kit for the BJFP/BJEP chassis Protege. If you guys are actually thinking of forking out the funds for the H&R/Bilstein setup on AWR which cracks the $2k barrier, you'd be better off buying the JIC's. Which gives you more for less. For more info do a search or email me, ARD P5 or Wheelguru. If you are a serious about buying JIC's, do not hesitate to call ARD P5 or Wheelguru. I have already seen them install JIC's on a couple of cars, so yes they are availabe.
