This is just pure curiosity, but I was wondering how many members on this board (assuming they see this thread) hold an SCCA membership of any sort.

yep- got a race coming up on the 3rd- (which I managed to convince my g/f was a great idea) First year for me, running in sts

I have been a member since 1997.

Yeah, the local autox gives sign up preference to SCCA members; you get to sign up first and a $5 discount. If they hit the 75 driver limit, you won't get to signup if you aren't a member. So I spend the money to guarantee I get to autox locally. Do I think it's worth it? Well, if I could autox without the membership, I wouldn't buy it.

It's worth it for me. We get 10 bucks off each event. 13 summer events and several winter ones. The membership pays for itself! I wish we would just hit 75 drivers. First event this season pulled in 290+ drivers! Made for a long day.

Here in the San Francisco Region, they have been "members only" now for about 4 years at regional events. They were forced into it because turnout now exceeds 300 cars at most events. If non-members were allowed we'd be running the 8th run group with our headlights on! Personal observations: SportsCar magazine all but ignores Solo II. Ditto "The Wheel", a SFR newspaper monthly. The only monthly worth a dime in my opinion is The North American Pylon, soley dedicated to autocrossing. Check them out if you're a die-hard autocrosser. They welcome articles from anywhere, in fact I have an article coming in the next issue. Keep those runs clean!

Ky Region here...

And somehow, duped into the chief of timing position with my wife at the upcoming national event at Peru.

philly region (aka "the best region") here. ;)

wow, 75 drivers. more than 4 runs. that would rock! :)

I am a member. Houston Region. Originally because of sign-up preferences at local AutoX events (we have a 30 non-member cap per set of heats), though now I've been drafted into the region's BoD (Beware of volunteering. You probably don't realize what you're getting into).

It was on my to-do list to start auto-x this year... Then I got engaged... Then my new fiance lost her job... It might have to wait until next year. I'm sad...
