Who can tell me what this is exactly?

I was watching Mazdaspeed videos on streetfire.net and cam across this one. This exhaust sounds amazing. First, does anyone recognize who's car this is and are they on the board? Second, if not, what exhaust setup is this exactly? I know that it says Apexi N1 with custom 2.5" piping, but is that a catback, true apexi N1, fake N1, cats, no cats, etc.

If you wanted a full catback with an apexi N1 muffler www.apexr1.com has the 2.5 and 3inch exhaust for 550-600 and they are stainless steel. Looks and sounds awsome... its under the axle with like a 45degree angle up.

yes that is a great deal.... kinda wish i wouldnt have went the cheap way

Do you think it would sound the same? Does it have cats, resonators? Is there a link to a working sound clip?

Also, there are so many types of N1 mufflers? Which sounds the most like yours ?

Is the N1 system you are talking about designed for the Mazdaspeed or for the regular Protege?

Is your exhaust too loud to have a comfortable ride and be able to hear people talk inside the car? Does it drone or rattle the car apart?

without a resonator or cats, the car drones a bit. and it's pretty effin' loud at wide open throttle, and almost half as loud when cruising with the throttle body closed. given a little gas it quiets down while cruising

I run a 2.5 -3.0" straight exhaust from the S-Pipe Back w/ an Apexi N1 as well...I love it...As far as how loud my setup is, it's best described as very porportional to the throttle. When I drive it easy for dates and such, it keeps nice and quiet like a catted or resonated exhaust, but when I decide to get on it, it is extremely loud and deep. There's no mistaking my car for a honda at WOT. It doesn't drone much at all on the highway... and it shouldn't for being such an $$$ muffler. My exhaust turns to 3" about a foot before the wicked little bend over the sway bar/suspension linkages near the rear passenger door.

It is pretty loud man, like highway speeds its pretty loud cause my girlfriend always complains lol but then with WOT it very loud(shocked)

doubtful. since corksport uses an N1 style muffler, the sound level will be about the same. i've heard many people say the corksport exhaust is pretty loud.

So which would you suggest between the two? Corksport or Apexi? Consider price ($385 or $550). Sound. Long-term?

I have the CS and it's great. loud but bearable. WOT = Mean and loud. Also goes up over the rear suspension as opposed to the ApexR1 system which goes under and can and will scrape......alot...... either would be good unless you're looking to push well over 12-15 psi then you owuld need 3in from apex or someone else.

either one is a decent exhaust. as far as sound goes, you'll hear the natural roll of the engine better with corksport's since you're eliminating both cats. apex's will give you a smoother, more mellow note (and probably quieter since you'll still have both cats). however, if you replaced the midpipe or more and went with apex's, i'm pretty sure you'll hear the rumble clearly and you'll notice an increase in the sound volume.

i have heard of a few corksport exhausts cracking and that people have had to bend the hangers to get the exhaust to stop rubbing. apex's exhaust goes under the rear axle so if you're in a place with ground clearance problems, that may present a problem.

in the end, it's probably gonna come down to how much you wanna spend. if it's still too loud after you install it, you can always go back and add a resonator and/or silencer.

Which would be quieter, the Apexi N1 at highway cruising speed or the Corksport and highway cruising speed? Do you happen to know dB ratings of each?

db ratings? i wish i did. it'll vary from car to car so the exhaust companies won't post that info. as far as cruising speed, i'm gonna say apex's exhaust will be quieter, simply because you'll still have the stock cats in place. if you replace the midpipe though, i think they'll be about the same.

So the Corksport would provide more power then because it removes both cats and the apexi keeps them. Also, what about the Corksport with the silencer? Does a silencer really cut the sound level back for daily driving?

as far as power goes, most likely, yes. i'm not sure how much a silencer helps. actually, come to think of it, i'm not really sure if the corksport muffler can accept a silencer. check me on that one.
