plannin on purchasing a test pipe or a motor mount this friday so.. what test pipe would u suggest? whats gonna fit with ne dp and ne after market cbe?

Most people from what ive seen have the SU test pipe. The test pipe is basically a small straight tube so i doubt brands will make a difference. Just make sure that you get the 2.5 inch test pipe unless you plan on installing a new downpipe soon. If you get the bigger 3 inch pipe with the stock downpipe, you will get some air flow problems. Ive got the SU 2.5 inch and so far no problems. Very easy install. Installing the test pipe took me like 20 minutes. Very easy bolt on.

we have sold hundreds of the corksport model and will have more in stock this weekend. very nice mandrel bent 3in part with the factory style exhaust hangers.

very nice mandrel bent 3in part with the factory style exhaust hangers. does that mean ints 3 inch? does it still mate ok no leaks?

are u runing stop dp and stock catback or? im not planning to do a dp or a cbe for quite a while just want something to make exhaust a bit throtier and help a little performance wise. just concerned if i put a 3 inch test pipe on a 2.3 exhaust its gonna give me some leaks or what not

yes it is 3 inch and no it does not leak. the diameter of the pipe has nothing to do with the potential for leaks or exhaust flow, so don't buy into any hype that says ptherwise. the gaskets and flanges have 110% everything to do with leaks, and corksport has designed a part that seals with factory or aftermarket components, regardless of who makes those parts.

awesome thanks ken ill be purchasing a corksport test pipe on friday i very much appreciate the info and your help

I have the Corksport DP, but still got the stock CBE. No problems at all with any leak from the TP back.

captain you mind explaining the 2.5 inch vs the 3 inch test pipe? Ive been told if you are running the stock downpipe and you purchase the 3 inch, because of the change in piping diameter, you will get some air flow problems. Makes sense if your having air shoot through a tiny pipe, it wont pass straight once it hits the giant 3 inch test pipe. The 3 inch would obviosly require more materials to make (im not sure if its more expensive or not) so it wouldnt make sense for companies to advocate selling the smaller one.

+1 on the Corksport. Corksport has been making Mazda stuff for years. I tried another brand of whom I will not name to avoid any pointless debating, and it didnt fit correctly, I got the CS, perfect fit, no leaks.

I page a PG testpipe, it looks a little big (in the donut area where it bolts to the catback) But with a little adjustment it fit fine and I feel no leaks at all when placing my hands arouns to check for air. It's 3 inch, just seems like the stock catback piping is a bit small to bolt to the donut. But I got it to work. With resonators and muffler off its loud as s*** with this testpipe on!

the shorty down pipes and pretty much all catbacks for this car are 3 inch, so it would not make sense to advocate a 2.5 inch mid section to go inbetween those two potential parts. your logic actually works in reverse, and not even to the degree where its going to make even the most marginal of differences. the only thing which would cause a 'flow problem' of any kind would be a bottleneck and back pressure in the exhaust system, and what does that is a smaller diameter pipe, not a larger one. its not as though you are going to lose power or damage the engine by removing the mid section w/cat and replace with a 3 inch test pipe while keeping the factory exhaust, nor will it trap air inside that larger test pipe.

the only instance where you would want to advocate a smaller pipe is where you would need or want backpressure, which is not on a turbocharged car nine times out of ten. i could see, maybe, where people would want to keep a 2.5 inch pipe if they never intended to replace the rest of the exhaust, but car to car and dyno to dyno there is no improvement between keeping a 2.5 inch pipe and using the more common 3 inch, honestly.

Per Corky Bell:

"...Any bend in a tube or suden change of cross section must be viewed as a potential flow loss or source of increased drag...."

my corksport TP sent out on friday from PG so i should be getting it soon! :)

Corksport test pipe came in today...i'm excited...I could put it on tommorow...but if I wait until like maybe Tuesday I can go to Ferrari and use the lift to put it on and my forge BPV should be in by then...

Whats you would guys do?

Yep if you have jackstands just use those. Its very fast and easy. That and the new bpv shouldnt take you over 25 minutes unlike the shoft shifter i just installed. Damn what a PITA. Stripped a very pesky cheap screw.

Oh I am not saying I coudn't do it myself. I am a semi-professional race mechanic in my spare time. I was just thinking instead of crawling around on my driveway under ramps it woudl be nicer to do on a lift...plus while i am there i can tighten endlinks. PLUS it makes ofr good hnag out time with ym best friend who is the lead tech at Ferrari. we drink beer and make stuff....
And while i am there I can clean the Underside of te car with WD-40 etc etc..I decided to wait. The test pipe is sitting on my kitchen counter for people to admire as they walk in :-P so very shiny...
