umm i have a couple choices just want to know what would be my better one i looked at all that ifo on sounddeadnershowdown site but it makes no sense kinda, would i be best going EDead v1, B-Quiet Extreme or Fatmat? please someone help me, these rattles in my car need to go.

Look into Second Skin Damplifier. All the ones you mentioned are asphault based and therefore not worth the money, you might as well just buy some roofing tar at home depot.

if all you seek is rattle killing, then your TRUE best bet is cheap weathersealing, some silicone sealant, and patience.

What didn't make sense about it?

I use one called BrownBread....I love it! Put it all thru the hatch, and both front doors, I heard a major difference in just doing that....I've been told it's about equivalent with Dynamat Extreme...It got rid of all rattles, and a lot of people thought I had more subs then i actually did because of it.

I can tell you that I've come out to people looking at my car saying, is that as loud as that thing goes? You can still hear a little outside the car, with the windows up and everything. My friend was inside the car with the volume up to full, and I walked around and opened my door, and the guy asking the question was floored, he couldn't believe how loud it got.

This summer I plan on pulling the head liner, putting it in the roof, rear doors, and floor, and if there's anything left over I'm going for a second layer in the front doors and hatch

Observations

While there where a wide range of times posted by the products, this test is likely the least indicative of actual performance and the one I see most often misinterpreted. It only demonstrates the adhesive capabilities, at room temperature, on a perfect surface, immediately after installation and one hour later.

that is just the adheasion test, which is nothing like what the mats function in automotive applications are, unless you where using the mat to hang something from your car(thumb)

asphalt products over time lose their adheasive capabilities, especially with changing temperatures.

also, read the conclusion:

Best Value

RAAMaudio's RAAMmat BXT is a high quality product priced to compete with asphalt mats. If you are considering an asphalt sound deadener based on price, please reconsider.

Remember, you are not just buying square feet, you are buying mass. Most of the asphalt mats are thinner and the lighter than the butyl products. This means you will need more layers to accomplish the same result. The only close comparison is eDead v1SE vs. RAAMmat. They are close in weight and thickness, despite the fact that Elemental Designs significantly overstates the density of their products.

pay attention to the last sentence(boom07)

i use raammat bxt and love it. it's reasonably priced and works well. i can't justify the price to use second skin or dynamat extreme.

umm do you think 62.5 Sq. feet of this stuff will be enoguh to do my trunk? including walls, floor, lid, rear deck twice (once under that plastic thingy and once on the sheet metal)

I think the roll of Bread that I got was 70 sq. ft, and after doing everything i mentioned...including the inner skin of the door, as well as the back of the actual door skin, same on the hatch lid, and covered EVERYTHING on the hatchfloor and walls, and I have over half the roll left

it might be. in my old '99 protege i had over 300 sq ft of mat installed. 2-4 layers everywhere, so i didn't really keep track of how much i used in each area. i'd get 2 rolls, then you know you'll have enough for the trunk, and still have some extra for other problem areas.

Well I just read that sound deadener showdown thing, and feel kinda stupid, brown bread didn't do so well....but ah well, I haven't had any problem yet and it's been 3 years

Where do you live? If you live in a state where the temperatures get into hot or cold extremes, I'm gonna strongly advise against asphault based deadener. I know a few people from when I lived in Alabama (stupidly hot summers, pretty chilly winters) whose asphault deadener either fell off or melted into all the cracks in their car, making it smell like freshly paved road.

rule of thumb is, do sound deadining during the summer so that the material has enough time to stick. if done in cold temperatures, or done at room temp but soon exposed to cold temps, the sticking wont be efficient. i did very little sound deadening work, mainly trunks only, and used whatever was available at circuit city because that's where i worked ( i believe brand was tsunami). I'm planning to do my entire car sometime this summer.
