I've been contemplating about getting a pistol, either 9mm or .40 Cal, most likely leaning towards 9mm. But as for the pistol itself self, Im kinda got some choices. Glock 19, S&WSW9VEWalther P99 or any other that I might not know of. I want something compact, comfortable, and accurate. Also post any good or bad experiences with either pistol or what you have, Im not looking to spend over $500.
Can't go wrong with a Glock. Although it is sort of the Honda of autopistols, good and bad. My friend has several and I love shooting them. But if you want something somewhat unique that's not it.
I'd get a 9mm just because they're so much cheaper too shoot with white box Winchester Wal-Mart ammo. 100 rounds for 10 dollars. Unbeatable outside of a .22
I'm biased towards SIG-Sauers myself because I like guns with less plastic feel to them. For $500 I would personally go for a slightly used SIG or a new CZ. (SIG also makes a less expensive SIG Pro which has polymer stuff like the Glock and is similar in price and design.) The CZ is really just as well made as the SIG. I love how they feel in hand and they are just beautiful guns. That's what I'd get for sub-500 but that's me. http://www.chuckhawks.com/cz75B.htm
good point. i've shot maybe 75 rounds through my glock and i've had it over a year. i wish i would have saved up and bought a browning 525 or something.
Like a rifled break-barrel pellet gun from Wal-Mart? Most fun I've ever had for a 100 dollars. No better way to rid your yard of destructive rodents.
Guns are useful.
a) could save your life or protect your wife/girlfriend from a sexual predator
b) don't depreciate much, if at all, sometimes they appreciate in value
c) they last forever with minimum maintenance, unlike cars
d) some chicks dig 'em, the ones who'd be offended probably aren't worth your time anyway
e) if the world is overtaken by zombies, independent studies show you could live up to 50% longer than people who don't own guns
f) Hollywood has shown us that hundreds of years in the future, the mighty 12-gauge will still be an effective tool for killing aliens
am i the only one here that doesn't like the way the glock feels in your hand? if i was getting a pistol for protection i'd get a .40 cal for stopping power. you never know when a pcp crazy lunatic will come after you (boom07)... you know those 9mm don't knock people down so well. I would personally get an HK USP
My friend had the UK USP in a .45. It was a beast. I have large hands and it felt like a brick. Sort of an a reassuring way but kinda clunky. Maybe the 9s and 40s are less blocky. I think those are more like 7-800 dollars though last I checked.
Yeah, background check (usually 15-minutes if you have a clean record)) but yeah you can walk into a Wal-Mart and buy today (maybe there are local laws at play but I doubt it in Texas). Well, Wal-Mart doesn't sell handguns but other than that...
You only need a permit to conceal carry, restrictions depending on state. Like in NYC or California you have to be rich or famous to do it.
oh yeah i forgot about his price range. I've actually seen a bunch of HK USP's at the gunshows around here priced at $500-$600 for the .40 and ~$450 for the 9mm. I've never fired the .45 HK but i have fired the 9mm and the .40. to me it just felt like the pistol belonged there. Although you can get a 30rd magazine for the Glock (boom07)
