Which mazda to turbo?

I wanna know ur opinion guys, since i know some of u had or have miatas and p5/es/mp3.

I got this 1990 which basically needs some work (suspension, new tires/rims, 1.8 engine instead of 1.6, etc) but at least i already did the paint and body on it. And on the other hand i have the MP3.

So, since turboing both is not an option (i wish :D ) which car would u choose to mod and turbo? also which car would be faster at the long run?

get a 90-93 miata with the 1.6 engine, slap a system 4 flyin' miata turbo kit on it, with a full link managment system, and you will be blowin' away camaros and scaring vettes! 12psi / 240hp / 200ft-lbs

i already have a red 90 miata, but since the engine its old (125k but still runs fine) i need to consider an engine swap if i want to turbo the little guy, in that case ill go for the 1.8 engine, some extra torque is always good to have! :D

I say definately turbo the Miata, there are more parts gears towards forced induction (pistons, rods, stroker kit etc). I's also have to say stay with the 1.6, I don't own a Miata, but I've seen better results with the 1.6 than I have with the 1.8. The 1.6L+Turbo Kit+TECII&Fuel system upgrade=250+RWHP. Doing those would also enable you to :flip: almost everyone off. I wish I had a Miata as a second car.

i have heard of people putting a turbo/super charger on a post 100k mile engine in a miata. as long as the compression is still good, no burning oil, do a tune up, and slap a turbo on that puppy!

A lot more turbo miatas then MP3's...the miata is an excellent platform with proven aftermarket support...the MP3 is the new kid on the block...but has a great fwd platform...

Look at both cars....listen to them carefully...you may hear an answer.

I would turbo the Miata. First, its engine was orginally engineered to be turbo charged for a rally car. Second, Flying Miata has a ton of stuff for the Miata. Third, FM has a good tech support/customer service setup and reputation. Fourth, there are a lot of Miata owners that are interested in their cars.

Turbo the mp3.
1-Flyin' miata will be making BEGI turbo ugrades
2-It's younger so you'll get more use out of the turbo

And Razhael, man...do me a favor and kill the pic in your sig...it's lagging my work PC! :-(

you can trun the option to show sig pics "off" in your user control panel.

I think I have the expereince to awnser this question best, since I have a turbo mp3 and have owned various turbo miatas. If I had to choose it would definatly be the miata. It just responds to boost way better and its rear wheel drive! The 1.6 is the way to go cuz of the greddy kit....its very economical and upgradable. The 1.8 in the m1 makes slightly more power than the 1.6 because of the displacement but I just liked the 1.6 feel better. I had a flyin miata on the 1.8, a jackson crap charger on the 1.6 and a custom turbo setup on my other 1.6 with a 16g hybrid. You will really enjoy the miata boosted...it will feel like a boxter or mpower roadster. The MP3 boosted is also fun but as dolphin stated if I had both cars at my disposal the miata would be it because of it being the gtx turbo motor. It was meant to be boosted and the 1.6 doesnt even have to be tapped in the oilpan!!! It already is there with a plug ready for oil lines to be plugged in. Now thats a turbo motor;)

now u confuse me spoolin!
Well, first of all ur input sure is the right one (since u had both cars turboed), but, I always thought the way to go was to swap a 1.8 engine to my 1990 car, and now u tell me theres a better feeling to the 1.6 engine... and i sure consider your opinion since u had a 1.8 car with a FMII. Can you help me out with the difference on feeling, or what makes the 1.6 turbo better than the 1.8? just trying to decided which engine to get whenever i do the swap.

thx for any help

Both are great motors!
I say what ever you can get a better deal on.
I just like how the 1.6 revved quicker and that the block was already prepped for a turbo. If torque is your thing go with the 1.8 but I just like the perkyness of the 1.6.

Its all a matter of taste:D
