okay so i just read all of the daves audio installation thread and was very helpful for putting sound deadner in the car. so which brand is the best. dynomat, fatmat, b quiet. just kinda curious because im really wanting it to sound good. also i noticed that he put some sort of carpet paddig in there as well. how well does the help out. if its worth it i would like to get some as well. and my final question is how to get your spoiler to stop rattling. im lookin for the easiest but most effective way. thanks everyone. as soon as i decide on what i use and get the car apart ill be documenting all of it

There is a link somewhere that reviews each brand of sound deadener. I don't remember the results but they were all pretty similar. Many people have been going with www.raammat.com for the price and quality. People also use ensolite also available from raammat which dampens smaller vibrations. I believe Dave put down standard home carpet padding in addition to standard deadener. Here is a summary of what each does...

sound deadener: dampens low frequencies and improves bass response. Often cures larg rattles in body panels such as trunks and doors.
carpet padding: absorbs road, engine, and exhaust noise in cabin
ensolite: reduces high pitch vibrations from plastic parts, wires, and other paneling.

I went with Fatmat for my car 2001 Mazda MP3. I thought the price of around $1 per foot was very good. The stuff was real easy to work with and very sticky. I used alot so far 2-100sq foot rolls. I did my doors inside surface and door panel surface, the roof and all the pillers down and the back trunk wall and rear deck and most of my trunk. On my roof It got 2 layers and its solid as a rock and I got some carpet pad glued to it also. I did all of this in late 2005 and I had my headliner down last week and it is all still stuck on fine. Today i ordered 1 more big roll to do the entire floor over the next few weeks. It is super quiet inside right now so i cant wait to get the floor and front firewall done. I will say this, you start to hear all the sound that comes in threw the glass alot more.

i was gonna go with the fatmat. was just curious on everyone opinions. i went to a sound deadner review website and all the test were crazy. like its actually gonna get over 200 degrees in a car. so i guess fatmat it is. so how many layers are you gonna eventually have all the way around your car??

I will have 2 layers on the big panels. That is what I did on the roof and inside outerskin of the doors. When I do the floor I will give it one very good layer and then on big space i will do another layer. I will then add a very good carpet pad that does not soak up water since its rubber. One problem with having it all quiet is you start to hear the wind noise on the glass pillers and little air sounds all around.

i bet thats gonna sound killer. im not lookin to go that far. im just basically deadning my trunk so itll stop rattling. and since its cheaper to get a 100 square foot roll i decided to throw a layer on the floor board and in the doors to make it sound oh so much better. thanks for the help though
