Which HID kit to buy?

I'm rockin the CDM P5 headlights now and would like to eventually upgrade to HIDs (not projectors ATM) for the low-beams. I'll probably stick with either 4300k or 6000k lamps and would like to use D2S bulbs. What kits work best with the P5 headlights and H7 connector, while offering good longevity, reliability, ease of install, and ergonomics? I'll link for the P5 guys to chime in too.

Thanks,

Jeff

oh damn DDM is lifetime warranty? i didnt know that - ive got a ballast out and might just pick up a set of those then.

i was gonna say DDM as well, even before i heard about the warranty

yup if anything goes out ballast or bulbs you jist send it back and they send you a new one.. takes like a week or soo but jist save your regular bulbs lol its direct plug into the stock harness

Get in touch with Protephile on here. He sold me my HID kit back in the day. I loved it, his prices are awesome, and his customer service is second to none.

do yourself a favor and wire in a relay and direct power source to your ballasts. its easy and cheap to do and power fluctuations in the headlight wiring wont **** up your bulbs/ballast.

I lost a 5000k bulb to this, and i THOUGHT i killed a 6000k replacement the same way. installing the relay, everything works perfectly and cleans up the engine bay cause the harnesses for these kits add a lot of bulk around your headlights.

back on topic though, protephile sold me my kit over a year ago, and when my bulbs went sour in a few months, he hooked me up with a really good deal on a replacement set.
I will deal with him again very soon for another kit, among other things =)

In reference to DDM:

Did you all just go with the H1 bulb type? There are quite a few. What are the differences? I know nothing about electrical and would like some advice since my ballasts are going out.

And when it says "Our 55w HID Kit is not recommended for smaller fog light housings because they tend to concentrate a large amount of heat in a small area", does that or does that not refer to a MSP? And what are your opinions of 35 vs 55?

55s are actually illegal for street use. Suppisedly offroad only. If you have an msp or sedan its an h4 bulb. P5 is h7 for running lights and .... 9005 hibeam?

If you want hid hi/lo on sedan you need an h4 bixenon kit.

Most of the kits are 35 watts which is plenty. 55 watt in fog casings would be dumb without suitable cooling. Hell even 35 watt bulbs get hot.

yeah 35W is perfect the 55W basically whitens the light even more luminating more.. h4 is perfect and honestly u don't even need hibeams i live in new mexico and alot of these roads are pitch black at night n my hids shine bright

Thanks guys! Three more questions though.

1. Difference between the Apexicone Raptor HIDs and the DDM Slim Ballast HIDs? Both are sold by DDM and I can't find any differences anywhere besides that one is 10 bucks cheaper.

2. If I already have HIDs on my car (I'm replacing), do I need to buy anything else besides the DDM kit (2 ballasts/2 bulbs)? Wiring harness/connectors? Or would it be just an easy switch-out with the HIDs currently installed (assuming I already have wiring harness/connectors but from a different brand)?

3. Let's just SAY I wasn't comfortable installing it myself and want to get professional work. What kind of businesses install headlights like these?

1.) the slim ballasts are way smaller. look in the pic at the part thats not-the-headlight.

2.) should be but dont quote me on it

3.) i would think custom car audio places and mom-n-pop body shops, but again, dont quote me on it. legit dealers probably wont do it since its not DOT approved

if you already have hid's then why wud u need an hid kit???

and the Apexicone Raptor HIDs will fit jist fine thats what i got and they can slide right under your headlamps

Thats the common one. Highbeam is a halogen and sux balls. Bixenon is more money.

i bought the techone hid's form protehile a while back. love them. lemme know if you want to take a look up close

some high/low HID kits have a movable reflector like the bixenon ones, but to answer your question, the best kit for a MSP is a FX-R retro kit, but i dont think that counts.

ha ha. 6000ks are pretty blue. 8000 is really blue, and 12000 will get you popo ***** lol.
12000k is almost purple. neat color, but not a lot of useable light.
optimal driving tempk is 4300k - 5000k.
I miss my 5000's a lot but couldn't get a set of replacements =(
