Both systems are good.
Thermal coat offers:
reduced radiated heat
chemical and rust corrosion protection
reduces metal fatigue and oxidation
increases power efficiency

stainless steel offers:
rust corrosion protection

APEX system is offer with "A'PEX i N1 muffler"
Spool system is offer with "HKS"

go with spools 2,5 ss catback. sounds real nice and i am sure it will sound even better with a catless downpipe. i think that the apex also goes uner the rear suspension so less ground clearance. voted for spool.

I might be dumb, but is there a REALLY MAJOR difference and significance in mandrel vs. machine (non-mandrel) bending?

I used to have a 3" non-mandrel bent full exhaust and it looked, sounded and performed great?

Can someone give me good reason as to otherwise as i have not found anyone in orlando that does mandrel and the ones out of area that do said its not worth it cause its SO expensive?

Thanks!

Mandrel bent exhausts provide a better flow of air/exhaust. The pipes diameter decreases very slightly in a mandrel bend as opposed to a crush-bent system. Also, the inside of the pipe remains smoother and thus causes less turbulance.

I think mandrel bending is expensive because you need a machine to do it right. I think the shop should be able to buy the bends and weld them together.

in that case, i'd probably look for something with ss piping. i don't know how much help the thermal coating would be. the spool is nice. but i like the idea of 3" piping :D so my vote is for a custom exhaust (yes)

You really wont see any gains from a 3" catback as compared to a 2.5". I use to run an HKS 3" on my FD but switched to a 2.5" Pettit racing when I dynoed. The results were pretty amazing.

true. not unless you're making some mad hp. but it's not gonna hurt anything except your wallet. might as well leave the door open for possibilities :)

Bigger is NOt always better!
Too big can hurt....;)

As far as a custom exhaust is concerned, check on ebay for some pipe. You can get 2, 4' pieces of straight 3" pipe for about 30 bucks, get a couple of pair of mandrel 90* bends for about 45, a welder (preferably tig), and go to town. Make sure everything lines up, though. Use the stock exhaust as a template. Easiest way to do it. My 2 cents...

I've got a 2001 2.4l i4 Toyota Tacoma single cab 5 spd with a custom turbo manifold (built by yours truely), custom 3" turbo-back pipe, and Apex'i turbo muffler. No cats, flex pipe where the stock cat was, and that's it... Sounds nice, deep, and pops just a little bit. I will definately make my own exhausts from now on. Cheaper and fun to do (if you have the patience).

There is nothing special about an exhaust and I know those pipes can be bought cheap if you look hard enough. I just don't understand why some "tuned" exhaust systems cost so much money, specially when the manufacturer sells them direct. They are probably making a 100% profit for each systems they sell.
