which ems for a/f tune???

03 mazdaspeed protege....im running too lean and need a tune..if all i want to do is fix the air fuel ratio then which ems is my best bet?? split second...uni chip.... i dont think ill need something crazy or expensive.... help

Split Second AFC.. you can tune it yourself. Unichip you have to send somewhere to get it tuned, costs more $$ that way.

dammnnn i purchased the car from a private dealer and from wut i can see not much is done to it cept bov, boost, and af gauge.. my mechanic said it was too lean.. wuteva the code is... idk wut to do now

Something sounds goofy. Ask the mechanic for the code that was read.

Do you have a wideband or narrowband A/F gauge?

By 'boost' do you mean boost controller? Do you know what it's set at? If it's anything above 10, TURN IT DOWN NOW!

Sounds like you have some diagnosing to do before you bother getting an EMS. Because yes, the ONLY reason you'd be running lean on a stock tune is because something else not involving the tune is really wrong!

runs ok sometimes bucks round 3500 rpm if i hit it a little bit from a low rpm... im not sure exactly wut the code was but def too lean...mazda dealer will be a fortune cuz they wanna take out the bov and go from there... nightmare so far..no clu wut to do

Get us that code, take some detailed pics of your engine bay and post 'em up here. Then we can take a look, figure out exactly what was or wasn't installed by the previous owner, and go from there. We need more information before we can really help you out.

no boost controller... just gauges... autometer....the gauges r not even hooked up rite..that i can tell..i need to find someone local to take a look cuz rite now its been bad since i cant figure out wut to do...ill get the code again

ok ill take some pictures and give wutever info i can give... the last actual owner sold it to this private dealer which i got it from so im pretty much out of luck with asking him...thanks

If you still have a check engine light you can get the code read for free at autozone if there is one by you. In the mean time I would go easy on her because if possibly you are running higher boost the motor can blow VERY EASILY! Running out of fuel to keep up.

p0171 system too lean (bank 1)....thats the code..i didnt get a chance to take any pics of the engin cuz its raining here but ill do that tomorrow

the guy who hooked installed the bov probably did it wrong and never relocated the maf, or something so you are letting in un-metered air, recirculate the BOV

i got that code for a bad primary o2 sensor. but ya, if you follow your intake pipes and the bov is between the maf and the throttle body and it is not recirculating then that would be my first fix. once the air goes through the maf the car expects it to be there and venting to the atmosphere causes the air to not be there thus causing you to run lean and stall when you let off the gas. we need engine pics!!!

I just got finished with this code. I replaced my primary 02 sensory, MAF was only 4 months old and had a steady vac at -20-23. ONce i replaced my WGA with the ATP WGA all problems went away.

your WG wouldnt cause the lean code...more likely your intake manifold gasket is leaking..non the less you have unmetered air entering your engine after the MAF could be a vacume line could be a loose intake pipe.if u have access to a smoke machine smoke out the a vacume line and see where smoke comes out and walla theres your problem.or you could spray brake and or carb cleaner around the intake and vac lines to see if it changes the idle..so it cold of course.wouldnt want any fires.a bad af sensor is also possible but lean codes are almost always another issue..could also be a leak in the exhaust that cause your af/02 to get false readings..if your not talented with diagnostics then bring it somewhere reliable

a bad WGA can and will cause the car to the throw a p0171 (system to lean) when the WGA goes bad it can cause the wastegate to open fully allowing the turbo to create max boost and the injectors can not keep up, it will cause fuel cut at sometimes also.

I had the same exact problem when i first bought my MSP, and i had the p0171 code i replaced the WGA and all problems went away. and i have not gotten any codes since.
