Where to tap into wire for connecting a shift light?

I bought a shift light and it says I need to tap into an ignition coil wire and I am hopign there would be one of those in the front under the steering wheel column so that I don't have to run something into the engine bay.

Anyone hooked up a shift light and knows what wire to tap into and where that wire is?

There are no ignition coil wires available; they are all internal to the amplifier/coil modules on top of the spark plugs.

Your box may be able to connect to the logic signal going to the module. Any of the white/stripe wires going to the coil packs would be worth a try. Sorry, they don't appear in the cabin. They go from the ECU to the coil packs, all under the hood.

Ive seen shift lights/tachs the can read off and ign line, doesn't have to be off the coil. Basically the ignition pulse is strong enough to show up on any wire thats hot when the car is running. But these types always need to be told the number of cylinders. Does your light need to be configured with the number of cylinders?

Otherwise I would guess you should be able to get what you need off a pin on the ecu.

Uhhhh. use the one wire that changes color from coilpack to coilpack for your signal wire, set the shiftlight to 4 banger and i believe the black/white wire in the ignition harness will be the ACC wire, but use a meter or test light to be sure. good luck!

are you referring to like say the yellow wire coming off the ignition key hole under the steerign wheel? I am not sure if I tried that or not. I think I may have, tho i believe there are a couple of accessory wires there to tap into. I will have to try that.

would really like to avoid havign to remove the IC aqnd go into the engine bay to do this

Pretty much, though I'm not sure it will work with your particular shift light. All I know is if something like a G-Tech Pro can read the rpms through the cigarette lighter, it's not impossible. ;)

My G2X for example uses a pin off the ECU to read revs in my WRX. I'll bet that's your best location to get a good signal. Pretty much anything that's wired to the motor eventually has a wire attached to the ECU.
