Where to put VEI oil temp sensor?

Just curious where the majority thinks an Oil temp sensor should go in our cars? Oilpan or some other spot or perhaps tapping into a specific oil line? I'm no mechanic, so specifics appreciated, PICS a definite plus. Thanks for any replies.(confused)
