where to put my amp...

I am in the process of getting a 4 channel amp which will power a front speaker upgrade and a sub in the trunk of my 2001 P5. The original deck will power the rears...

The installer is suggesting to mount the amp on the subwooferbox, but I am hesitant doing so. I could put the amp under the seat, but I would not want people kicking it...

Does anyone have experience or suggestions as to where to put the amp, which by the way, is a pioneer GM4000F

thanks!

Well I was gonna suggest under the seat. That's where both of mine were in my 5. I never had any trouble.

I used to have mine on the sub box, but re-did my trunk config and made an amp rack for them to sit on. Then put a kind of heavy duty cover over them so I can throw stuff on top of it without worrying about getting them messed up.

thre's tons of room for amps under seats. if you think passangers might kick them, you can put the front edge of the carpet up over the side of the amp. problem solved.. thatsaid it's hard to get a foot on either of my bigass amps. Saves room, and mimimizes possible losses in the unfortunate event of a breakin. not many thieves are willing to pull seats to get to an amp they often can't even find.

sytem installed... The amp is under the passenger seat, and the installer placed the amp in such away that the wires are facing the doors rather than back & front. Rear passenger will not be able to kick any connections (lol2)

The front speaker upgrade, a 10" sub in the trunk, and 4ch amp is a good upgrade for the P5

congratulations on your upgrades. i am in the process of designing my trunk. hopefully by the end of the week the wood will be cut and i will be able to start putting it together.

Mine is mounted on the back of the rear seat. Its out of the way and it keeps cool, especially when the seats down

yea i was going to say on the back of the rear seats cuz thats where mine is going to go eventually when i get mine done. ha which is farther than sooner. but i just got a new pioneer deck and all new infinity for the speakers. so next is amp and sub

sounds good!

but I decided under the seat was best for me. I can easily remove the sub when needed, but removing the amp is a bit more challenging! For this reason the amp is under my lady's bottom...

thanks all for your ideas, but I am done for now

out...

seatbacks are good for other toys as well..

I have one amp mounted to the rear seat with my disc player and the other amp mounted to the subwoofer and I have no vibration problems at all. thought about the seat thing, but with people of different sizes sliding the seat back and fourht didn't want to take a chance on wuining amp

So,

1.) If you're going to put the amp under the passenger seat, do you need to remove the seat itself to complete installation?

2.) There are no heat dissipation issues under the seat? Isn't it cramped in there?

Thanks, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I'm about to add a 4-ch amp to my '02 P5. This forum has been awesome.

Yes you would need to remove the seat. It is easy though. Just pop off the plastic covers and use a metric socket to get 'em off (14mm iirc).

I'm not sure about the second question. You should have a few inches on each side so I don't think it'd be a problem.

I am intrested in the seat back mounting option... I have mine under the seat and will probably keep it there, but I will be adding another amp shortly for the speakers. I will probably put it under the other seat, but just in case I am still intrested in the seat back option. What is the primary mounting point on the seat back? Needs to be something solid that you can drill I assume.

The back of the seat is a big sheet of metal. Just remove the carpet, place your amp on there. Make sure the holes will line up with metal, mark them, drill them, and then mount with sheet metal screws.

Don't worry about weight. I have basically the heaviest amp you can fit on there.
