in calgary that is?

a stupid rock finally cracked my original factory windsheild

Forgive me for my ignorance but I have never heard of a lexan windshield. That's a pretty awesome idea.

I have been meaning to get around to replacing my windshield with a couple cracks and this might be worth it, especially with all that gravel still kicking around.

yeah its what bullet proof glass is made out of and NASCAR windsheilds, instead of the glass smashing into a billion peices, rocks and stuff either bounce off and dent the lexan, or it gets stuck in it, lexan is super soft so it can bend instead of crack and blow up in your face. what nascard techs do is they put a peice of film overtop of the sheild, and when the film gets a bunch of crap stuck to it, they tear it off and use another one, or they layer it and tear each layer off when they need too

also cobra helicopters use lexan as their sheild too.

sounds like a great idea, guess i'll have to hunt around for that state-side once i move.

btw, how in the world did you make it this long - especially given Alberta's roads - with the factory windshield????? i'm on my 3rd one, iirc...

yeah ive been really lucky until a couple weeks ago,

every time i get a chip i fill it in asap for like $20-25, but on the way to work in the morning on the first day it was 24C, i got a chip, then when the sun came out it heated the inside of my car like crazy so the chip turned into a crack. i was able to force the crack to go straight up instead of cracking the entire length of the windsheild. its not even in my way really, i guess ill be cheap and leave it be until i can find a lexan sheild.

go lexan only if you want to get your head taken off in a bad accident.

that would be more a cheap fiber glass hood than a lexan windsheild, nascar uses lexan as well as bullet proof glass companies that mod armored vehicles

does anyone know where to get the windshield film like nascar uses? i think 3M makes it, but i dont even know if it available to the public

Problem with the film is that they're not long lasting. They haze and scratch easily as well as fog up.

Also on the new cars the winsheilds is structual part of the car! so ur compromising ur saftly if you dont put glass in there! y do u wana use lexan any way

if lexan is strong enough to be used in cobra attack helicopters for the cockpit sheild i would assume it would be good on an economy car as well.

lexan = no more cracks! unless you hit a semi at 120kph
