I joined a while back, while I was looking for a RX-7 and an older Miata to do a V8 conversion. I found the forum V8RX7forum and have been there, for the most part. I rediscovered this forum in my favorites list, this morning. I'm back!!!!

My wife and I own a '06 MX-5 Sport, a '06 RX-8 GT, a '94 B4000, and our newly purchased LT1 powered '90 RX-7. We also have a '02 Mustang GT convertible we're trying to sell. Needless to say, we're Mazda poor. :-)

As for the purists who are cringing at our V8 RX-7, don't knock it. We bought the car to have something different at cruise-ins. Besides, the price is a lot cheaper than a vintage anything. It's a blast to drive.

I'm in Burgin, KY. That's just east of Harrosburg.

I really do need to take some pics. A group pic would be good. Just too lazy to do it. When it gets a little warmer, I'll gather the MX and two RXs for a photo session. :-)

some of us will have to get together on the somernights cruise and chill.
EDIT: oh and i live in somerset :D

I can hardly wait for Somenites cruise. I went to the first one, last year, and had a ball with the Mustang Mafia. I also attended the last one in October. It wasn't a nice day; but, we went, anyway. My son has a Mustang, also. After going to these two, I decided it was something my wife and I can do together, since she doesn't like flying with me.

We bought a '90 RX-7 TII that's slightly modified with a '95 Formula Lt1 engine attached to a T56 six speed tranny. I figured that would be enough mods on the car to get in without any problems and would allow me something almost unique to the local cruise ins. This little fella produces 365hp at the wheels. Not bad for a car that weighs about 2800 pounds. The guy had about $20K in the project and did excellent work on the conversion. I priced vintage cars and found that I couldn't afford one of those. I bought my RX-7 for $11K with 4K miles on the conversion. It's a nice ride, albeit a bit loud inside with the exhaust and solidly attached rear end. They do that to prevent rear wheel hop, I'm told. It does want to do that!

BTW, it was a guy at IQ auto sales in Somerset who got me onto this V8 conversion thing when he told me about a v8 Miata in Somerset. We were looking for a replacement for my son's Mustang that had been rearended the day before the big Ford show in Bowling Green. One thing led to another; and, I ended up with the RX-7 conversion, instead. Look for a little red RX-7 with a big engine. That would be mine. :-)

nice id love to get a RX7 and do a ls1 swap talk about bad ass. yeah IQ ive never talked to anyone there but i know they have a blue SS cobalt right now lol.
ever ran your rx7 in the 1/4?

The LSx is the more common conversion, now. I could have bought one with the LS1; but, I was after a nice looking car that sounded good, as well. It just happened the LT1 was part of the package I liked the most. Trust me, this engine is more engine than I've ever owned in my life. It's impressed all who've seen it, so far. I just need to have the car painted, eventually, to make it match up to the nice engine installation. The builder sold it to another guy, whom I bought it from. He was rough on the car, while he had it. The paint suffered for it, somewhat. It's not that bad; but, I'm just picky.

BTW, the best way to have one of these is to buy one. The builders tend to take a big loss on these things. As I said, I saved a great deal of money on mine. If you come to the cruise-in, I hope to have a parts list with me so you can see what all is in this thing. He spared no money on it. He has over $6K in the engine, not including the original purchase.

The car has run in the quarter by the previous owners and has bested at about a 11.8 second run somewhere between 115-120mph. I didn't buy it to drag race with on a track. I may show off on Hwy27 some; but, that's it. I bought it to show.

As for the guy at IQ, I don't know whether to thank him or curse him for getting me started on my V8 conversion search. I assure you, my wife would like to curse him. :-) I do hope to show him my car, though. He loves Mazdas.

lol yeah i mean the LT1 in such a light car has to be balls to the walls. i sold my 01 Z28 with a ls1 for my msp i know its a huge power difference lol almost by half but i was in highschool and i couldnt keep gas in it so i had to do something. so how did you go about finding a rx7 with a v8 swap? i bet it was hard todo.

With today's Internet, it's not that hard. I googled V8 RX-7 and found all kinds of entries. Some good ones. Most not so good. That lead me to some forums and leads. I also looked in onlineTrader, Ebay, etc. I ended up with a dozen, or so, to look at and narrowed those down to about four. If you want one that's just thrown together for drag racing, those show up regularly for low prices. I've seen projects for as little as $2500 with the engine installed. Mine was a tad more because it was a nice setup. There is somthing to be said for a nice interior, as well as a honking engine. :-) It wasn't nearly the $30k asking prices I've seen for some third generation RX-7s, though. Those are first class.

As a product of my search, I found MazdaForums, the RX7 club forum, and the V8 RX7 forum. The guys at the RX7 club aren't very friendly to V8 swaps. I quit going there because they're too sensitive to our cars. I have a RX-8; but, I just stay away from folks who aren't very open minded. There are some good folks there; but, one has to deal with few jerks who are most likely young enough to be my grandchildren.

I decided to recheck this forum because it has a specific KY forum. I'm more into RXs and Mxs; but, I love Mazdas, period. We have four of them, right now. :-)

No pics, yet. I need to take some photos of our '02 Mustang Gt that's for sale. I have to get really serious about selling it, now that the RX-7 is taking up space in the garage. When I do that, I may take a group photo of the Mazdas for the forums. This url will take you to the previous owner's Myspace page that has some info on the car, and some photos. The right side of the page is full of info about the car.

i live right by fayette mall.. and i know of two different places each about 5 minutes away where there are 2 different blue msps

I have been on the roof of that mall. The roof access is difficult to find once you have been up there for a while. It started to storm and we ran around for almost an hour trying to get down. All you see is sky lights and AC units.

I worked in restaurant inspection. Do not eat at Asian Chao or whatever it is called now.

I make it a point to not eat at places like that. In Danville, they found skinned cats in a Chinese restaurant's freezer. I know some folks in those countries like rat, as well. Dog also comes to mind. I try to stay with steak and potatoes restaurants and hope for the best. Even that isn't a sure bet. :-)

Thankfully, one of our favorite eating places wasn't damaged too badly when the storms romped through Harrodsburg, the other night. It serves a country cooking fare.
