Where do you put a floor jack.......

Be VERY careful where you put the floor jack before you attempt to lift your car up. I made a HUGE mistake and didn't put it in the right spot and partially broke off the lower side "rocker panel" as they call it. When I brought it in to my Mazda dealership for repair the mechanic laughed and looked at me like I was an idiot. I showed him the illustrations in the manual -- which I was following step by step -- and how it didn't take into account the "rocker panel" and confused me. He smirked and said, "Yeah, but it's still common sense." I beg to differ. I am not an expert on cars and for all I knew the "rocker panel" was what the illustration was referring to. However, when I began to jack it up I heard a cracking noise so I stopped, but it was too late as the damage had already been done.

The bottomline is that there is a thin metal bar that goes down the side that you need to find. It's in past the "rocker panel" and it is the ONLY thing you put your floor jack on. Like the previous poster said, it's by the wheels and you look for the indentation. If you put it anywhere else, it will bend the metal or snap off your "rocker panel." Then the next thing you know you'll be online using the term "rocker panel" over and over and believe me you DON'T want that to happen!

just to clear it up...
The jack points are about 4-6in in front(toward the front-end) of the rear wheel and 3-4 inches behind(toward the rear-end) the front wheel on the metal "crease". You can't miss it.

i'm not sure if you mean the floor jack that came with the car or the floor jack you can buy at any auto parts store with the little platform thing where you can lift the whole front end or back end up... but when i got my springs installed, the fronts were lifted on the front axle and the rears were lifted from the point where the suspension meets in the middle. i'm not sure what all this is called, i just remember how he jacked my car up. then he put it on jack stands.

center it on the pinch welds that are about 6inches inside the side moldings. that is a place you have on every car that you can use to jack it up. it is where they place the four arms on hydraulic lifts aswell
