I noticed like 1 month after I got my car that behind the rear heardrest there are no 6x9's . Which is very corny considering that they made a special place for them but there is no speaker there. I was wondering if anybody has installed any 6x9's in the back and if so how much better does it sound than just havin them in the doors? And is it still possible to have the 6x9's and the custom sub enclosure in the back? Thanks. Holla!:

the sub box is in the way
if you want 6x9's you'll need to remove the sub.
move this to audio section, please

to put 6x9's on the rear deck you would have to do away with the stock MSP sub, but why bother, I and many other people think that a "front sound stage" sound is much better. many people go as far as to remove any and all rear speakers.

my point being, save your money, its not worth it.

so let me get this straight there are no speakers in the rear other than the 8" sub!!!? they have the grille covers there but there are no speakers? I was gonna part with the sub to put like 2 10's back there anyway

there are 7 speakers in the MSP.
2 tweeters, one in each front door, 2 door mounted speakers in the front, 2 in the rear doors, and the sub...

YOu can fit shallow 6x9s in there. Only a few will make it though. Since the MSP is a reworked protege sedan, it would have been foolish of mazda to remake a rear deck for just it. So since an inexpensive kenwood speaker could not clear the sub box, the rear doors were used.

So what do you think would be some shallower 6x9's to get. I remember when I upgraded my 200sx rear speakers to some Xplods and believe me...It made my bass hit harder and the overall sound porportioning was better since the sound from the back wasnt comin from the floor but upward. that is why I am tryin to find somethin that I can fit in those slots that are quality and that will allow me to keep the enclosure cuz I am gonna throw a 8w3v2 in there soon.

Put the two 10's in, plus two 6x9's. That wouldn't cost too much, and would sound way better than what we've got. Eventually that's what I'm planning on, but probably not for quite some time...I'm getting by with the stock speakers for now.

Crutchfield is usualy good about listing depth. I have no idea what is out there right now that will clear it.

Get two Elemental Design 8" subs...they'll hit harder and cleaner than most 10 or 12" subs.

Nope, there is no 6x9 that is that shallow.....it is only about a inch and a quarter deep....

just to clarify... the depth of the 6x9 only matters if u have the stock sub/amp hookup? As in, since ive got 2 12s i can put any 6x9 into that opening?

Yeah, they just used the stock deck lid. I checked that out as soon as I got home from the dealer. I knew I read in the brochure that it only had 7 speakers.
