Where are Side Airbags?

Hey, Where do the side airbags come out of? the seats? I saw A wrecked STI which crashed a few cars ahead of me and they came out of the seat.. Im interested...

if you look at the side of the seat you'll see an emblem that says SRS. That's it

Thanks.. So I gusse no point in puttng in racing seats or seat covers.. What could I do to make my seats look better? What do you think about getting STI seats with airbags? do you think there compatable?

Oh crap, I never even thought about this w/my seat covers. Should I take them off or something? I wonder if I could just make a hole for them or sumpthin... hmmm....

I donno dude, The STI that I saw, the airbags Rip the seat open, pretty nuts how that s*** works.. But the seat covers would def stop the airbags from coming out. i would take them off, theycould save your ass one day.

Well, I don't see that happening, I'm just too vain about the aesthics of my car. Nah, I'll see what I can do to mod the seatcovers. They're comfortable and they give such good lumbar support. I'll definitely have to do something because I don't want to sacrifice safety either.

What kind of seat covers are they? Some seat covers allow for side airbags or have special cutouts. It all depends on the covers.

They're those kind you find at AutoZone or Advanced Auto that are the faux leather w/the side bolsters and stuff built in. The front and back is the leather-like fabric and the sides are a nylon fabric which could be cut but it would need to be sewn or something so it doesn't run and look crappy. Another thing is if I cut a hole in it it would have to be affixed to the seat somehow to keep the hole lined up. I'll see what I can do.

You're right, but if they didn't ask or mention then they probably don't. Wet Okole asks you if you have side airbags and they make the covers so you can still use that.

There are some users here that use Wet Okole, you can ask them what they did to the covers around the SRS area so it will rip open when the airbags come out.

I guess you could cut the area and stitch it up with some weak stitching. Dunno.

Yeah, the P5 comes standard w/side airbags. Mine did, I don't see why they'd change it... wait... I do... but I'm sure you have them.

Side air bags are NOT standard in any year US P5, only the front air bags are. To get the side airbags you find in your seats you have to get the Side Air Bag/ABS option when you purchase the vehicle.

That is true about the US models. The side aribags are part of the package you get with ABS brakes.

On the canadian models I'm pretty sure come with ABS standard and the side air bags as an option (not 100% sure).

me neither... at least if I wanted one with a MT... the ATs on the lot had ABS but the one and only MT (the one I got) did not... mind you this was when they were still pretty new on the scene (Oct 01).
