I might think about getting a used one when people start trading them in. What were the tranny problems they've had? I didn't know much about aftermarket for the WRX till yesterday. I went to a site that sells the Cobb tuning package, and for 5 grand you can have the WRX way over 300 hp. I think I'd die in a crash with that much power though.

Basically you've got an AWD system with a high-torque turbo. When some numb-nutz decides to drop the clutch at 6000 rpm, you're gonna have tranny troubles.

Evidently Subaru didn't do that good a job re-inforcing the differentials. Either that or they didn't account for the incompetence of North American drivers.

If you want serious WRX power with reliability, check out Vishnu Performance www.vishnuperformance.com . That's the Sport Compact Car guy's business. He's got some seriously crazy turbo upgrade kits.

I might consider a used one coming off lease, since it'd be dirt cheap...

I didn't think they had confirmed that yet?

Oh. I thought you meant a new one. I had heard rumblings that they were going to make a Rally Focus, but I guess I didn't look hard enough at your post to see the Escort part. My bad...

As a car nut I read on as many sites as I can to learn about all types of cars. I have test driven most of the cars out there and can honestly say that I have not driven a car that is more fun than the WRX for that price.

You can compare it to an Audi and the BMW but where the WRX loses on interior refignment it pics up in performance and price. If you are conserned about performance the WRX is the BEST bang for your buck(22K). Sure BMW's and Audi's are nice cars but performance wise for the dollar could not match the WRX.

From what I have read and spoken to service techs at Subaru the problem with the cars are the drivers. You cannot dump the clutch on any car at 6 grand and expect it to last. They also come in there with their boost controlers hidden, like the tech can't tell. That is a good way to get your lose your warranty. I was lucky enough to get a ride in a modified WRX and WOW. Small amount of mods and this car comes alive.

Just my two cents.
