Wheels or Springs?

If you had $600... and wanted to improve the ride of your car... would you replace the wheels with new 17" wheels and tires.... or replace the shocks with eibach prokit and Tokico HP's?

I'm having a hard time deciding... they both have good benefits...

Heh I was thinking the opposite actually... i thought the new shocks would improve the handling more than the wheels... because of the low center of gravity, roll, etc...

I really don't care about the looks of the lowering with the springs, I just want a better ride overall. Maybe the stock shocks with new wheels will do that for me....

I'd go for the pro-kit and the Tokicos cause, with $600 bucks you cant really get a good set of tires and rims. My tires and rims were $700 but my stock bridgestone tires handle just as good as the tires that came with my rims (kumho's)

But unless you are going for looks i'd go for the rims.

What 17" wheels & tires can you get for $600?

I'd definately go for springs & struts. (thumb)

streetstyler.com has 17" wheels by Rev for $425 a set... tirerack.com has yokohamas for $58 / tire. Ok so it's a little over 600... closer to 700 with shipping.

I totally agree with everyone. Go w/ shocks and springs then later
get some really good tires. The stock P5 rims are pretty nice IMHO.( I'm assuming you have a P5, right?) Anyway, if youre getting 17s you will need to drop the car anyway, unless if you dont care about the big fender gap.:D

Ooops... forgot to update my profile... No I don't have a P5, I have a 2001 LX 2.0 ... so it has discs in the front and drums in the back...

You'll have better ride quality with 17s and stock sprints/shocks versus lowering springs/Tokico struts.....

Springs/struts will make your stock wheels/tires look good!!!

I vote for ..... probably springs/struts ... just because I don't like 4x4 looks that much.... unless it is called an Evolution or WRX STi......

springs and shocks! cant get nice rims for $600... that i would know of. gl! - chris

springs and struts.

i got 17's first because i had to jump on the deal. but having stock suspension with 17's really sucks(too high). the great handeling is totally gone and leaves you wanting suspension mods. when i put the stock rims back on, it was like a whole new car again.

im upgrading my whole suspension in one shot:D

Sad I know, but I have steelies with hub caps, so I don't think there's ANYTHING I can do to make those look good... except maybe buy those plastic spinner hubcaps from walmart :)

This is part of the reason why it's such a hard decision...

My friend has a Black 2000 Civic with H&R race springs that absolutely slammed his car. Civics have hubcaps too, but he took them off & only has the steelies on. IMO, his car looks better than all of the Civics I see with whatever kind of wheel that aren't lowered.
