Wheels and offset questions

My head is spinning after speaking with a few different online wheel companies and hoping you guys can help. Have a 2003 Lapis Blue withe the sport kit and 17" rims.

I like the new Centerline Monsoon Storm series wheel found here:

http://www.centerlinewheels.com/wheels_detail.php?mw_id=16&sw_id=85

However, that wheel shows a +42 offset. Some people say it will fit and others say don't use anything less than a +48 offset.

What offsets are you guys putting on with the 17" stock tires? Will these other offsets work? I went to tireracks website and after entering my vehicle they show rims with offsets from 45 to 52 for the car. What does work?

I would try to stay at or above 45+ (I would prefer above)but some people have been running a +42 no prob it also depends on how wide the wheel is and what size tire you are going to run

Since my stock tires only have 5k on them, I was going to run the stock tires and just buy rims. I think most of the rims I have looked at are 7" wide. How much wider would a +42 offset be than stock?

the offset has nothing to do with the width I will let ashu come in and elaborate on this one for you but you might have a problem with the stck tires and a +42

For me, based on tire rack and wheelsnext, I asked them about 18" rims and they said I needed 225/40/18 tires. I'm ordering my 18's later this week, and tints are goin on today, cant wait

I think the 18s with a 42 offset and no wider than a 225 tire should fit, provided you roll your fenders. How to do that, and the 'easy' way to obtain the best tool, is described here.

Good luck, and post pix!

Wheelsnext said that with 18's, the 225/40/18 tire was the right fit, that means the 18's wil fit on teh car without rolling back teh fenders, correct? If tire rack also shows 18's to put on the mazda 6, that would also support not having to roll back the fenders with those particular rims right? Cuz i really dont want to put 17's back on, 18's would look so much better

I myself plan on going with 17's as they look fine with the eibach springs and I already have those so its all good. Yes you will not have to roll your fenders as long as the offset is high enough is baically what ashu was saying but with a +42 offset and a 225 wide tire you probably will need to roll your fenders and you WILL have to if you lower your car

17x7 +42...with a 225 wide you'll most likely have to roll your fenders to make 100% sure you won't have issues.

The stock rim/tire is 17x7 +60 offset, with 215/50/17...so you can get an idea that a 17x7 +42 with a 225/45/17 is WAY off the stock configuration.

You might be able to get away with a +42 17x7 with 215/50/17 tire...but thats debatable. Nice wheel choice, that was one of my first choices for a wheel for the 6.

Rim Help...

When I bought my 6 i knew the wheel well was really wide. and i was suggested to put 19's on, but im not sure if thats a good idea. Im not familiar with rims...Can someone help me...

Ciara,

Earlier in this thread there are a ton of links on 6 wheel questions and answers. I suggest reading them.

19's are the worst performance solution possible, but quite blingy. Its up to you to make the decision whether you want performance, or looks.

The individuals who bought 17x7 +42 K1-TS Kosei's rolled their fenders as the lip was really close...so I'd plan on doing that with 225/45/17. You can probably run 215/50/17 without issue though.

Latest update

Found a set of ADR Msports on Ebay for $687 new, color is Titanium. Bought those with 225 40 18 Yokahama EV100 tires. Car is lowered with H&R springs and so far no rubbing under any circumstances. Fenders did not have to be rolled with this package, rim is +48.

Some people have rubbing with 225/40/18 and 18x7.5 +48. Might want to watch your tread lip. Even though you haven't rubbed yet, doesn't mean you won't.

17x7 +42 225/45/17 rubs =/.

And when I mean custom...I mean custom. You can get them in +60 offset if you want...completely forged. One of the best wheels you can EVER buy.

Why would you think $600 each when my post says "Found a set of ADR Msports on Ebay for $687 new"? A set means all 4 rims around here, not sure what a set of rims means by you.

I paid $687 for the set of 4 and another $600 for the tires. Total package with shipping was $1,385.00 for 18 inch rims.

Crossbow, rubbing will not be an issue. When I installed the wheels/tires I also installed the lowering springs and was able to check the travel of the suspension freely. Unless I was to take a turn at high speed, enough to cause sidewall flex of 1/2 inch or more they will not rub. I did not do the Eibach springs though, so maybe that's why also.

I think the people that rub with a 225/40 tire either use a tire with a soft sidewall where flex is an issue or they use a lowering spring like the Eibach with a severe drop. Although, I have heard of people with the Eibach that don't have rubbing issues with a 225/40 also which probably means it's more of a sidewall flex issue than anything.
