What's up with MSP resale?

As the title suggests,

Why are MSP's being sold for only about 1k more than regular protege's? If they're being sold at all?

nobody knows or cares about what a MSP is...to them...its just a Protege w/ a body kit. you can thank mazda for that one...They didnt market the car for s***...

Agreed.... Hell I didnt even know what one was until AFTER my friend bought his... They marketed the MP3 decently so it makes me wonder why, after knowing it would potentially make or break mazdaspeed, they didnt market it better.

I found out what is was because I was in a dealership for something & a titanium one caught my eye....then I found the blue one sitting in the back w/ plastic still on it & lost it....it was mine soon after

nice!! I really REALLY wish I had mine since it was new... wouldve been 40x better than my Jetta... but I didnt know about them at the time.

Yup, crappy mazda marketing. Still fun to see ricers rolling up to me wanting to race, thinking its just a modded protege.

As of recently, things have changed. I now have people confronting me asking if its turbo'd.....im guessing the Speed6 and Speed3 have finally gotten people to know what the "Mazdaspeed" badge is :D

I can't wait until mazda comes out with fast cars that aren't manual only. How about some damn mazdaspeed automatics.

how about you learn how to ddrive a real car (peep)

:p

Resale is out of whack just as the delivered pricing was on the cars. There were only a limited amount of them made and it debuted with limited fanfare. Some people were lucky enough to get them for $15-16K brand new, while others paid full MSRP or a bit less.

Most owners have modded there cars to some degree and that will impact the resale value. Especially if the mods were not installed properly.

Word, I went in to get a 6S with a 5-speed, sport package and Bose kit.
But alas as luck would have it there was this attractive little car all roped off in the showroom with a podium by it.
I thought, hmm das is dis? Very inta-raasting. I porused the brochure and took it for a spin. Well needless to say I loved the car and bought it.
But I did not really even know completely what the story was and I had seen them on the web but thought, bah is just a ******* Protege! LOL.

Ditto-ish!

I'm rather ashamed to say I was pretty much set on buying an SRT-4. Had my local dealerships had any color BUT yellow, I'd be sitting in a Neon today.

But thank God for my father. I was all ready to buy a black SRT-4 that hadn't even been delivered to a Dodge dealership about an hour away, when he said, " .. Let's go take a look around at the Mazda dealership. I bought my Protege there back in 2000. It's a pretty fun car to drive. Maybe they'll have something and give you a good deal."

And there was the Titanium, sitting front and center in the Mazda lot on Roosevelt Boulevard. And I fell in love. Aww.

But until I saw it, I'd never even heard of a MSP. And you know what else? I basically sold the car to myself. The questions that I asked the salesmen -- they had NO idea what the answers were. For example, they tried to tell me things like .. oh sure, the 03.5 MSP has foglights, they're built into the headlights. Yeah, okay! I did all my own research on it (what little there was available), and bought the car based on that. The salesmen were completely useless.

Yeah, I wish I had mine since new as well. Even though I paid 13 for mine used (back in may), which isn't horrible. Not to mention the fact that I had an 05 corolla before this. So, this is definately an upgrade. I don't think that I could bring myself to part with my baby now, especially for around 11k which is what they are going for. For the looks, style, platform, community, and aftermarket; i'll just have to upgrade to make the MSP an amazing daily driver!

Weird I didnt know there was a lack of advertising. I knew all about the car because of Mag's like super street and SCC,

The car came out when i was 16 and all over Honda's.

I loved them then, and this last may when i was shopping for an 00' or newer accord i seen mine on a sale lot. in a K-Mart Parking Lot here in Beaverton. For carr Chevrolet. took it for a spin, they were asking 21k and it had 21k miles.
I knew they were asking way to much as the car was bought in texas origenally so it was prob 19k NEW!

So i talked to my credit union and they said it was worth 18,195 so i went and offered 16k, worked out a deal at 16.375

6 months and 16k miles later i still love it. so happy i Chose a turbo over Vtec:)

I new about the car but was living in NYC when they came out. Once I moved back out to Long Island and proceeded to blow up my MX-6, and got extremely bored of driving my parents Taurus with a shot automatic! I go to this dealership to test drive an SVT Focus and proceed to snap the shift linkage during that drive. So after the sales guy tries shoe horning me into an SE-R Spec V I notice an unbadged Titanium MSP sitting in the middle of the Used Lot. I asked the guy, is that the Mazdaspeed...he had no freaking clue what I was talking about. I hop in take that for a test-drive, here the turkey and fall in love. To think I almost sold it this past summer for a TL!

I have to be honest as well, before I bought mine, I had no idea they ever even made a Speed Protege. My credit union was having a big 0% interest sale on all of their Repo'd cars and I was in the market so I went down to see what they had. Nothing striked my interest except the bright yellow Protege. Then I noticed it said MazdaSpeed on the back...I know all about the new Speeds so I figured it had to be the same principal (turbo with all the sweet suspension hook-ups). Took it for a ride and fell in love. Got it for just under $13k with 58k on the clock.
