What's the verdict on the 4SP Auto RX8?

So what do you guys think about it? The RX8 in auto is the only one I can afford. Yaa..less horsepower...I know... but its still a hot looking ride ain't it? The RX8 in stick-shift is too close to the price of a G35, and I'd rather buy a G35 since it has gotta be hands down one of the fastest cars in auto I've ever driven (under $40k). I regret test driving a G35 cause I fell in love with it but it was too much. Same case with the stick shift RX8.

ANYWAYS FELLAS...so what do you all think about the RX8 auto? Is it still a pretty quick car? Somewhat comparable to the G35 auto I test drove?

Why not special order an RX-8 6spd without all the uneccessary options? I'm sure you could keep the cost down that way, assuing you don't mind waiting for it.

If you get an automatic, you'll regret it.

double (werd)

isn't this peer pressure getting to you?...:D

the 6speed is only 2k more, you'll be much happier with it, so take off some options, wait some more time till you accumulate more cash. Do what it takes, you'll be unhappy if you get the auto

Ya but you guys gotta keep in mind that here in Miami, the driving is ******* congested up the ass. Stop and go traffic almost every 5 minutes in these streets...and I'd say you hit a stop light once every 2 minutes. Highways are jammed all the goddamn time. Baaaah.

I had an '02 Firebird in 5 speed manual which I completely destroyed a few months ago, but anyway, my right hand would hurt every other day - and despite what you may think, NO, that wasn't from jerking off all the time - it was from all the pain-in-the-ass goddamn shifting I had to do all the time in the overcongested streets of this bad city!

I'm not trying to make excuses for not getting an RX8 in stick, but driving manual in this city is a royal pain in the ass for me..unless I only drive in the wee hours of the morning which is when all the pigs are out ready to catch speeders.

But from the looks of it, you guys are telling me that the RX8 in automatic is a slow piece of machinery that doesn't come close to the G35 in automatic, heh. I guess I'm not even going to bother test driving an RX8 in automatic in that case.

Oh well.

I actually test drove one today. Priced out to $30,300 with $4,600 in "stuff" including the automatic transmission. The paddle shifters are cool, I've always been a big fan of those. However, the power is far from it. Honestly, it felt like I was driving a MSP in terms of "get up and go." At $30,000 + tax/title/license you'd be quite foolish to make the investment. Not to mention you're getting stiffed 2 gears. Your gas tank will thank you if anything on that 6th gear.

BTW... an Infiniti dealer is directly across from our Mazda dealer and I sat in a $38,780 G35 with virtually every possible feature from DVD navigation to the 'appearance kit.' No competition on sex appeal from that RX-8, hands down on that Infiniti.

Don't let that stop you from test driving. You may like the power in the auto. You'll never know unless you try.

Ya test drive it.
Least then you can get a feel for the car, how it handles, stereo etc.
Then from there you can decide if the auto was enough or if it is even worth persueing the extra for a manual.

just becareful, some people see a cool car find out its auto and say "what a POS" even if it is the best car around, *shrugs* some people anyways, but dun let that stop ya
