What's the deal with colored turn signals?

Not calling them anything, or saying they are stupid, but I just don't get it...:?:

What is the point of a blue, or green, or white, or basically anything non-red or Orange turn signal?

IMHO it takes away some of the functionality of a turn signal. As to say, it kind of throws other drivers off as to what you actually intend to do (we're all conditioned to react to orange/red turn signals), as well as if you have your flashers on the side of the road at night, who knows they are even flashers? Anyone else ever ponder this?

speaking of which, does anyone have red turn signals on a p5? i've always wondered what it would look like. any feedback much appreciated.

and scott, i will have to agree with you. i think the thing that pisses me off the most about altezza lights (especially on civics and accords) is that most of these guys also use white turn signals. it's like wtf? are you going in reverse or are you turning?

i like my amber bulbs, cleaner look and everyone has hyperwhite, no offense to those that have em i just like my amber.

Legally most colored bulbs as you mention are illegal. They are suppose to be amber or red, cause as you mention this is the color most commonly assoicated with their functions.

And I do like my amber ones, though ones that match or contrast your car color can be nice for show, or meets. Course wouldn't drive around like that all the day, I have hard enough time trying to keep people from rear ending me all the damn morning.

i love my bright ass white turn signals. here the only colors that r legal are white and amber. A lot of cars now have factory white turn signals.

I have a hard time thinking that a company would sell a car with the same color reverse lights as turn signals...just what I think though.

well i would assume that they assume someone can figure out...solid white light on back of car = reverse and BLINKING lights on front&back, especially on one side of the vehicle only, would be obviously turn signals.

I get the legality issue for some colors as they dont want u to have emergency or traffic colored lighting cause that would be confusing but i mean amber is more recognizable? blah, if anything I think a blinking light of a different more unique color would get attention better than normal, and to figure out if it is turn or not...does it blink?

Anyway thats just my opinion, I do have a question though, anyone know the link to find out your state laws concerning lighting? I used to know it but formatted and forgot.

Thx

Side markers are fine, but the front and rear markers are suppose to be amber or red. Have not seen a single car with the front and rears with white lights, only the side markers.
Reason being is that side markers are not required lighting.

well, if the morons figured out that their lights are not wired properly, their turn signals won't blink properly. there's this one civic in town that has that... he turns on his signal and it just stays on a constant white. and since they are wannabe altezzas, the light orientation changed, so it's hard to see if he's signaling to change lanes or if his reverse light is shorting out. that's why keeping it either red or orange makes EVERYONE'S life easier.

ive seen some volvos and saabs and 1 new bmw with clears turns.

The only colors that are legal in the entire USA (it's a federal law) are amber, and red. The cars with the 'white turn signals' only have clear housings. They still have a amber or red bulb, so when they are lit, they are still legal. Otherwise, they would not be able to be sold here.

are u sure? i ahve clear side markers clear lense and white bulb... bought them at circuit city... or where you talking about hte front and back?

front and back...

but i'm pretty sure he was referring to the cars themselves. the DOT mandates that turn signals in the front and rear of the car can be no color other than red or yellow.

I didn't think that red turn signals were legal in the front of the car. I know people they have pulled over for "impersonating a police officer" for the red bulbs.
