Today I was driving and all the sudden my car starts whistling. Not terribl loud but loud enough to be bothersome. So when I got home i pulled it into the garage popped the hood and the sound was definently coming from the belts. It was conistent and it I thought to myself theres no way I have to replace the belts on a 1 year old car with 14k miles. Anyone have any idea what else this could be?

mazda 3 has a general service letter to dealers about the front calipers being miss aligned and needing new brackets. there is no safety concern but the old brackets caused a wistling noise even when not in braking. you will know that it is that problem by the noise increasing when you make turns. i first thought mine was caused from some sort of belt but the dealer pointed out the breaking issue. easy fix, 1/2 hour tops

doubt it was the brakes if he opened the hood and heard it (he was stopped) sounds like a pulley/belt... could be either but as you said you only have 14k on the clock i would take it in and have the dealership fix that bad boy under warranty

Should i take the time to take off my intake or just leave it? Im not too worried bout my exhuast cause that cant be the problem and if they try to blame it on that ill just give em (bird) and go somewhere else. It just makes me mad that this would happen becaue i jynxed it. Like 3 days ago i was talkin to my wife about how my mazda hasnt had a single problem and she told me that i was gonna jynx it and damnit i did.

haha... if you didn't pull out your resonator box tossin the intake back in wouldn't be a bad idea... then again... if you take it in and they say the squealing is the intake...??? i think they have more problems then just your car...

my bad, didn't read the whole thing, missed the part about the hood being opened. that is why i drive them and work the numbers, i have buddies who put them together
