What's running after I shut my MS3 off?

It is NOT fans.. for the 4th time. No air blowing.. nothing.
its air sucking into the engine bay, u can feel the suction try it ur self, theres a grill under the mazda symbol in the front near the ground, next time u hear it, put ur hand infront and u can feel it suck air through.......

Probable the actuator than control the varible intake runners. If we have those. I think we do. MY old SVT focus would make some noise right after ignition was shut off. If its hot the fans will run though, but he noise we are talking about is not fans.

double post ftw.. no wait, you posted it 8 times. I know the forums were probably going berserk, having a lot of issues lately.

eya dam i jsut realized after a 5min load to view the reply, il probably get banned for that....didnt mean to its taking a really long time to do anything

There is fuel pump in tank which sends 62?psi to 2nd fuel pump which is mechanical. Driven by motor. Off camshaft? It would be tough on a electric fuel pump to run 1600psi.

Doh! Good point. Okay, then I'm going with that intake runner thingy.

sounds to me on my car like a hard drive spinning and shutting down

That's likely just the sound of pressure releasing in the air intake piping. My car did that when it was naturally aspirated with a cold air intake, and still does it to an extent now that it is turboed.

Someone said it was making a noise 5 hours after they had last driven the car though? That has to be a separate issue, definitely not still air being released.

I am not sure I'm talking about the same buzzing noise as the OP, but mine starts the minute you turn the key to ON and it stays on for a few minutes after you turn off the car, even if you don't start the engine. So, all the speculation about things that might happen after the car has been running are not applicable. Plus it is definitely a buzzing, electronic sound and a mechanical sound at all, IMO.

So it's when you turn the key to on (even without engine cranked) and then it's there for a few minutes after the car turns off? Does the MS3 have auto on/off headlamps and/or the feature where it'll leave the headlamps on for 90 seconds or so after you shut the car off? Maybe there's a relay or circuit involved with that making a little noise.

Just another hunch.. is this only happening with MS3's equipped with HIDs? I know my HIDs make an electrical capacitor charging sound when they first turn on, but haven't ever noticed a sound of them discharging after being turned off... I guess it's definitely possible though.

Yeah I'm definitely thinking there are at least two different sound being talked about here. one definitely has the characteristics of a radiator fan with a "turbo timer" function on just the fan (sorta a neat idea, I've experienced it on some mid-late 90s vdubs, but I'd rather a true turbo timer), while the other just sounds like air being released in the pipes.

i dont think ive ever heard the air release, maybe i not paying attention or its a lower sound than the fans that i hear.

The MS3 might not have it stock.. I haven't noticed it on my car since I turboed..

Is the fan running full speed with the car off when you hear it? Some people are saying it's definitely not a fan noise, but if it was going full bore I'm pretty sure it would be obvious that the fan was the culprit.. people seem to be talking about a much more subtle noise than that.

For any of you who are hearing a slight electrical noise with the car off.. the next time it happens, pop the hood and see if your fans are spinning at all.

not ful speed but its noticable, i put my hand infront of it and i can feel a small suction .....i dont hear anything else , and it doesnt come on all the time..

Its happening on the Mazda3's as well. and its NOT the fan, I had my buddy turn off the car, while I was watching the fan. It is the fuel pump or something making a buzzing noise for a few seconds. Every car I have owned made that noise though, some louder, some quieter.

well most cars when u turn the key to on have the fuel pump buzz. thats normal, its priming itself.

proly de primes... i dont know...get gas out of the engine so it doesnt sit there. and when u start, pump gas in....just a guess since you guys are saying fuel pump

maybe because the pump is diferent than any car. dont the injectors spray at like 1600 psi or something crazy , on the disi

well u still have an electric pump, which is what the priming sound comes from, then a mechanical, which id assume ramps it up to 1600psi. so u still have a pump like most cars, but u just have a 2nd one.
