What's in store for the '17 CX-5?

HUD would be nice. The tech has been around for ages.
Prefer to see it projected say at the bottom part of the windscreen. Or like the old Saab 9-3 with the central display on top side of the dash (pre 2007 models).

As much as i like current mazda design, the cx3 seems a bit off. Can't tell till i see in person though.

I like the front end of how it looks, but the back end reminds me too much of what KIA would produce. Not a fan of the taillights... but again, I'd need to see it in person too.

Waiting for CarPlay

I am hoping that they add Apple CarPlay to the infotainment system.

Mazda has known about the CarPlay requirements for over a year, so I find it hard to imagine Mazda rolling out the 2016 nearly a year later with a revised infotainment system that does not meet those basic requirements.
But without any assurance from Mazda that a firmware update will add CarPlay hooks, I'm holding my 2016 CX-5 GT purchase. When 2025 rolls around (I keep vehicles a long time), the 2016 stock functionality could look like an 8-track or cassette tape player.

I'll be in the market for a 2017 as my current lease will expire but I am not holding out for many if any changes in 2017. The don't call it a mid cycle refresh if they are planning major enhancements the very next year.

I don't want any more pointless crap.

^^^Why not an 8 track player...and why even bother with power braking or steering? :p

I don't think they add anything new but some option below would be nice. Why not make it a world car where you'll get the same car everywhere, most people in NA like what the people in Europe and Asia is getting anyway.

Headlight washer (you need to clean the windshield to see why not the headlights, you can see out but your lights all cover with grim how does this help you see, I don't know why they don't make this mandatory especially for us here in the north. It's mandatory in Europe)
Power outside mirrors
Power passenger seats
Power lift gate
Same color choice for the interior no matter of the exterior color (sand cloth/leather color choice no matter of the exterior color), add light grey as the interior color choice.

OK all ready, I'll trade the CD for an iPod and USB port. You like it now!?

How did you know? We test drove one before we bought the CX-5. Tight handling and the visibility was unbelievable. But lacking in acceleration and braking compared to the CX-5 and the CVT was kinda mushy. Killer mileage though!

When would we expect the 2017 to arrive? Being that the 16 came out so early.

It might follow more of the timeline of the '15s following the 14's since there probably won't be much change.

I don't know for sure but I believe '15's came out in 1/14.

2018 MY should be getting a real refresh, probably getting styling cues from what is seen in the current cx3 (grill, headlights, slim vertical fog lights have housing , floating roof..)

They are supposed to release a second generation of the skyactiv engine that should be even more fuel efficient... no specs yet. I am hoping that the gt trim should get at least a 200-220 hp engine (ideally even the next gen 2.5 skyactiv turbo good for a rumored 300hp) even if it came in the form of a mazdaspeed cx5, it would be a very attractive package.

hopefully when they arrive with the update, they will also adress what seems to be lacking in equipment vs other current competitors such as:
-power liftgate
-rear center ventilation
-paddle shift
-panoramic sunroof
-roof rails (specially in gt trims) most other competitors have this from the factory
-ventilated (cooling) leather seats
-heated steering wheel
-power folding mirrors (that dont shake)

You forgot to mention memory seat which controls driver seat, outside rear view mirror and steering wheel positions. (boom08)

I'd have to think memory seats will be added at some point, at least on the GT trim. And perhaps a power passenger seat.

Already have these in my 2014 Mazda CX-5 :)

I don't think Mazda will change too much of the style and dynamics of the car as the CX-5 is a hit worldwide. Obviously add more features like power lift gate, bigger moon roof, HUD, paddle shifters, more powerful engine, slight change to the KODO design philosophy and will most likely offer more safety features.

Power liftgate and panoramic moonroof.

Pano roof. So much better than a moonroof, IMO. When Ford did the glass roofed mustangs, it was a real winner, in my opinion. Maybe not for the mustang, but as a concept at that price point.

I would love to see the 2.5 turbo in a CX5 or even the 2.2 diesel if Mazda ever gets around to bringing it to NA. I'd replace my 2013 with a diesel or 2.5 turbo in a heartbeat.

diesel in north america is dead - theyre even pulling it from their LMP car

I don't get why diesel just doesn't get any traction here unless it's one of those big a$$ "coal rolling" lifted trucks/
