What's Hotter- P5 or Mazda3?

Wow, I haven't been back to the forum for a couple of days...didn't think this would get such a response.

Bottom line is that these cars fit different tastes, and that's fine. Chacun son gout!

I guess the reason why I originally posted this is to find out if other people thought the same thing as me- new is not necessarily better.

When I bought my P5 in 2001, the choices were very few for hatchbacks (this was before Matrix, Vibe and the new Honda came out). Even with all the new cars that have come out since, I still like the P5 better. I actually like the RX-7 way better than the RX-8 too. It's the classic lines and simple body.

After 3 years of ownership I still have people asking me what my car is and telling me how nice it looks. That's gotta tell you something...

being an owner of the last year of the 5's ('04), i am a bit biased, but my buddy has a 3.. and that thing is pretty sweet.

2 reasons i wouldnt mind having the 3:

1, waaaaaay better aftermarket bodykits! (Kenstyle and Autoexe, for example)

2, just more power, and more power base means more and more power when aftermarket parts are abundant!

I haven't driven the Mazda3 but have read many reviews, and it seems that the 3 has lost some of the "driveablility". I think I'll keep my P5, thank you, I love the handling and brakes. If I wanted better acceleration, I can always get a turbo kit...HiBoost anyone??

I have driven both. I like the P5 for its handling and style. However, as styles t pointed out, this poll is posted in the P5 forum, so are you surprised that the P5 gets way more vote?

Must be one hell of a mistake to have three generations of mistakes.

Yeah I aggree with Chuyler that 3 looks too much like a Vibe or Matrix, especially from the side angle.

I don't know... Looks too much like a fat chick wearing jeans that are too tight
and one of thoes cut off belly shirts to me. Something about the "hips" in the
back really turns me off to that car.

There is someone at work that has a 3-5 (same color as mine), and I make it
a point to park either in front of, or next to their car, specifically because
mine looks so much better. (that and I keep it so much cleaner)

Without the 3 generations of Protege "Mistake," there'll be no 3. You may as well be driving some POS from Honda!

Oh it is "Proteges," not protoges, so maybe Mazda really did something good to stop making the protoges, which they never made!

P5 for it's looks,but I like the stock hp (162) of the 3 hatch,the stereo control on the steering wheel and optional HIDs.Hated the huge ass d-pillar,though.

kind of an unfair, or should I say generalized comparo. I'll tell ya why.

I prefer the P5 over the MZ3 wagon...yet I prefer the MZ3 sedan over a regular protege sedan

I 2nd that.
I also share the same feeling, P5 better than M3-5. M3 better than Protege.
I like the outlook and interior of my P5, but I like the engine of M3.

Also the P5 has a go-kart driving feel that the M3 can't give you. I think you only get the same go-kart driving feeling in either a MR-2 or a Lotus Elise.
No other sedan/wagon can give you such feeling.

Oh, I also love the P5 Steering wheel which also found on MX-5/MSP/MP3 much better than the more bulky looking one in M3. But the steering wheel audio volume adjust buttons on the M3 sure is a nice touch.

I voted for the P5 of course, but I like having a car that was only made for 2 years. Our cars will always be limited edition, I know not MP3/MSP limited, but limited when in a couple of years we will see 3s EVERYWHERE.

No need to wait a couple of years.
They are already everywhere, go take a look in Canada.

Oh, by the way, I think the stock single CD player (not the in-dash changer type) in the P5 works better than the stock single CD player in the M3.
My friend bought a new M3hatch this year and his CD player skipped like those old Discman when they first released while my P5 CD player never skip even I drive fast over speed bump after speed bump.

Dude, your M3 is almost as big as your house !!! Seriously though, it's better than a lot else out there but compared to the P5 it looks like it's fat brother.
