What's everyone replacing there sub with?

:
2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege
My stock sub blew and I was curious what people are replacing theres with. I'm tired of waiting for Mazda to get the part to replace it. I want somthing that I can fit into the stock box with ease, don't want to have to do any real heavy modding to it. So what's the best way to go.

I would get the same driver. That enclosure is made for that driver. The amount of air in the stock box is made for that driver. Also it's sealed, so you would have to find another driver that requires that same volume of air and works well in a sealed enclosure. Look at the specs for the Kenwood driver and buy as close as you can to that. Be careful of volume #'s and efficiency.

Mid bass drivers ... huh? powered sub? wha?

Dude what are you talking about? He has a MAZDASPEED with the 8 in the trunk....and it blew, he just needs a raw driver to stick in there......

I also forgot to mention MazdaspeedZOOM that you should also match the OHM rating.

Yes it's an 8" and I know I should replace it with the same thing but if it's just going to blow again what the hell is the point. I know a couple people have replaced theres with JL subs, any idea which one?

Hey,

I did this to mine before I had my custom trunk enclosure built.

The only way to go is with a JL Audio 8" W3v2. It's WAY better then the stock sub.

FYI - You might get some more replies to this one if you posted in the audio thread.

There's two different JL audio 8" subs, both of which say they work well in small ported enclosures and don't require a lot of power. I think i may look into these as an option.

Did you have to do any modifiing to the box to get it to fit and did you have to rewire anything, also what about the JL 8w0 is there a difference? The reason this is posted here is the MSP is the only one with this type of enclosure.

eight inch JL audio...

...or you could just pull a sub out of my big ass 1970's record player/dresser sized radio :)

Yeah I think i'll try and get the JL audio one, but if I don't atleast I have an alternative.

thats what i went with.:D

Go with the Audiobahn 8" sub if you are wanting to use the stock box. These subs require very little air space and they are cheap. For the money you cant buy a sub that performs better. BTW Audiobahn has fixed the voice coil problem they use to have. The new line of subs are tight...Here where I live you can get the 8" for about 50 dollars..Hope this helps..

I thought we had sealed enclosures? If we do, get a driver that will match the 8 in there.

Both JL audio 8" subs mentioned in this thread are good for either ported or sealed enclosures. They also don't require very much power to drive them, I think i'm going to go with the 8w0 sub just because it's relativly inexpensive and should work really well with our amps.

Is the efficiancy the same as the Kenwood? You don't want that sub to be screemin' while the rest of the system isn't.
