Whatcha think about these tires?

Well I sort of have the feeling that you should not get a tire cheaper than stock. But Mazda literally put the best tires you can buy on the car. (y speed rating is in excess of a z at 186mph). If you spent a few bucks you could probably get a very good ultra high performance tire in the stock size. The problem is what performance are you looking for All season, m+s rated, competition? I guess I never forsee myself exceeding the 149mph of a z tire so I will consider the azenis 615's as my replacements. As for the other tires suggested their cheap junk sumihatos, lingloos or what ever don't waste your time with them. The BFG's are good tires if that what you want do it up. The 235/40/18 should be 20mm wider than stock and nearly the exact same height in the sidewall. Google "miata tire size calculator" and have some fun finding the right size for you.

Yeah I think I will do the BFG's since they are bit cheaper and I am guessing they will last longer even though it has been mentioned that tread wear inst a uniform number between MFR's. I live in California where its always summer so no need for anything other then Ultra High Performance, yeahhh!

I wont put a piss poor tire on the car just cause its a daily driver. You have 2 options the way I see it:

1) bad tire never can push the car hard and wont allow the car to handle like it could

2) good tires that wear fast if you push it like the car can

Point being that we bought a fast car that should handle well and I want to maintain this. When I want to push it I should be able to but I dont see myself ever putting a $100 tire on it and calling it a good tire for the money when you are loosing performance.

Cant tell you how many times I have saved a dollar on a cheaper option only to have wasted that money to have to buy what I should have in the first place. To me a $400 set of khumos isnt a savings if they are s*** compared to a $700-800 set of good quality tires.

I guess I wont know until I try them but I dont see the BFG being a bad choice either way.

I think I will go with the 225/40/18 to get a bit more rubber on the road however I will have to really watch for pot holes more then I do now. They will weigh more then stock by a couple pounds but no biggie more traction should offset that.

This site might help a bit.

This will include if you planning to get difrenet wheels. I do agree that those BF are heavy for the 3 or the MS3. You will feel most bumps with them. Not because the tire it self but because the weight. I currently have the TOYO PROXES4 215/40/ZR18 that whaight about the same and I am currently going through that. Dam all season tires

The 215 series are 2lbs lighter then stock and the 225 I think were like 1-2;bs heavier so I dont see why people say they are heavy.

You have 20 series side wall on the Toyos?

So which size should I get the 225 or the 215?

I sweat tirerack changes by they day because now they are cheaper and have other sizes. Now I can get 215/40/18 or 225/45/18 and the difference is only 2lbs. VS stock the 215 are 1 lb lighter and the 225 are 1 lb heavier.

I like thre reviews I am seeing on the BFG's so I am pretty sure they will be my choice. They look cool too, lol.

Do it.... I personally dont like how they look, and I think Ive also heard their noisy, which will bug the s*** out of you... My buddies dad has them on his older corvette and he seems to be happy with the grip. Ive mostly seen these on trucks though for whatever reason, I think mostly looks because I dont see any suburbans drag racing....

The rule of thumb is to sacrifice weight for width, the rotational mass is spread out, AND you have more area to grip so I would not even think of getting 215s, but you know Im crazy ;)

Sounds good man I think the 225 will be a good choice and I can maintain the side wall width to protect from pot holes ect. Being that the cost is close to the same and only 1lb more then stock I dont see 225 being a bad choice.

According to the specs they fit a 7.5-9 inch rim I think it said, either way it will fit the stock wheel.

I read about the noise but have heard about this on the other truck tires I had and I didnt notice it. I just really was impressed with BFG on my truck for their A/T tires more then any other so I hope this tire is just as good and now tire rack has them $25 cheaper then when I started this thread.

Just doing my HW since I have atleast 10k more miles to go on stockers I think.

I have 285, 20" BFG Gforce tires on a 350Z .....way quiet....not sure of the weight. Stick nice too.
