ok everyone here is modifiying their car..what you all do about insurance? Does it go up every time you mod your car? do you have to tell the insurance company?

i'd say if it's something major that you would want covered under insurance (i.e. full turbo kit), then tell them. if it's something minor (intake, exhaust, etc...) then i wouldn't worry about it. if you don't tell them, don't expect them to cover it under insurance. they might cover it, just don't expect it. with telling them, they'll probably charge you more

i dont care to have the actual parts themselves insured..i just want my car to be insured..and im afraid that if i dont tell them that i have mods..then they wont pay for my car if it gets in a wreck

i'd say if your mods caused your car to be totalled, i.e. removing the front bumper for your ic and then getting in a head on, put on big brake kit and brakes fail, etc..., they won't cover it, otherwise you should be ok. it's all in the policy though, just read what it states

you should keep pics of all your mods if something gets damaged or stolen so you have some proff of it too.

ok thanks guys
When My car got broke into! My insurance company only paid me close to $.10 on the $1
With all my receipts- I got hosed! But many company's won't cover aftermarket equipment from stereo's to rims(wheels) but stock wheels are usually more than aftermarket wheels
I would tell them about your mods unless you got big money into it!Turbo/Brakes/Coilovers

If you have a lot of money in your car you should consider an "agreed value" policy. It's basically a policy that covers what your insurance company agrees is the "real" value of the car. It's more expensive than normal insurance, but can cover you in a loss.

I was looking at one of those coverages before but one company said I could only drive so many miles a year
It ALL depends on your INSURANCE company

Yep, you can get custom insurance. You have to provide recipts for everything you want insured and the insurance company will insure it to that amount if stolen. I dont know how much $$ the extras cost.
I got lucky. I wrecked my car and I didnt have my custom paint job insured and they paid for it anyways. My insurance went up $161.00 for the year because of my accident.
You can call and talk to your insurance company about it. But when you do so make sure they know you are looking for a quote. Ive heard of some companies adding it to the policy anyway and upping your insurance.
