What would you do?

Alright so here is my situation, currenty i own a 99 cougar, and im looking at either msp or srt4...i really love the titanium color in mazdas, so i found one in florida with 17k miles listed as 14 grand...i figure i can get it for 12 or so, anyways back to what i was pondering. I live in MA and this is in florida, i thought itde be fun to fly down there witrh a friend or my girlfriend then drive it home? Maybe hit up some spots on the way back?? Has anyone ever thought of this or have done it? Maybe should i just ship it? Im just looking for all your opinions negative or positive, thanks.

you could, but you would be crazy for choosing the msp over the srt4 unless you like the car for handling. if youre gonna try to go real fast youre making a bad decision. im not trying to dissuede you, but come a month from now i dont want to see you upset here.

yeah, well speed if fun, but the looks and overall quality is what im going for, maybe a bov (lol2) but i am going ot have to commute to college this coming fall, and a protege seems like a better choice during my next few years.

Really look into the MSP before purchasing. There is a lot to know about owning one. If I had to do it over I would still get the car because I like how rare it is. The neon is a faster car but the MSP is in a class all its own.IMO.

Get the MSP and drive it back home. Shipping would run you close to a grand. 3-4 tanks of gas is a lot cheaper! Its a unique car and a lot of fun with the right bolt-ons. (burnout)

The neon looks like a blind man designed it....It looks like it sits to high and has a big ass....

I would say ship it, just because if it does have any problems you don't want to find out on a road trip. Cost of flying two people or shipping is probably about the same.

^^srt4 looks pretty good if a blind man designed it...;)

MSP is going to be a more overall quality car, but won't be easy/cheap to make it quick like the SRT4

Don't forget the safety factor. The neon ranks as one of the lowest small cars made in crash tests. It's a piece of s***. The fact that it's faster makes it even more dangerous. I know of only one death related to an MSP, and that kid was racing and slammed into a tree at high speed. Consumer Reports rates the '03 Protege all red circles across the board. (that means above average) Then there's insurance. As soon as you say "SRT-4", the insurance agent pulls out a big red flag, unfurls it, then shoves the mast up your ass. They all know it's a "racer-boy" car, and you will pay out the ass.

If you can pull that msp for 12-14k do it. If my car were totalled today I'd take a look at a srt, but I wouldn't pass on that good of a price

Not true, depends on a lot of things. My 04 SRT-4 was $8 a month cheaper than my 03 MSP. I had both at the same time, and when it came time to trade one in on a new tow vehicle...I traded the SRT. It just wasn't as fun and as rare as the MSP. If you can get a nice MSP for $12,000, go for it. There are the parts out there to make it run well. The factory stereo in the SRT sucks as well. And I was able to change the swaybars front and rear without jacking up the car! To get the SRT to the same level for handling and asthetics as the MSP has stock would cost the same as getting an MSP to the same level of power the SRT has stock.

Please not another MSP vs. SRT thread...

If you haven't seen the pics of my MSP (or Dr. Sound's, or Crock's, or other totalled MSPs), then let me know. Many people have walked away from very serious wrecks in Proteges.

Remember Memphis Racer's MSP after he spun it into the concrete telephone pole? I tried to find the pics, but they are gone now.
